Male Haircuts

Im from the US and usually get a #3 buzz cut. Im assuming they dont have the same razor attachments here. What would the equivalent cut be here in Switzerland? Also looking for cheap places to get a hair cut in Bern.

Re: Male Haircuts

There are two Turkish mens' barber shops in Bern, both charge about CHF 25,--

One is in Wallgasse and one in Speichergasse. I have marked them in red on this map,

We are eating Mexican food Tuesday evening, why not come and join us?

Berne; come dine with us on good Mexican Food

Yes, they do. Just sit in the chair and ask for a Nummer drei.

Re: Male Haircuts

I am sure the attachments are the same - am I sure you'll get the message over to any hairdresser.

(I believe these attachment were a Braun development, so probably more German than you think. One number is 3mm in length, so 1 is 3mm, 2 is 6mm, 3 is 9mm and so on...)

If you're a #3 buzz cut, I would seriously consider buying a set of clippers and doing it yourself. You'll save yourself a small fortune over the long run.

When I used to wear my hair that short, I could do the whole routine in about five minutes.

Re: Male Haircuts

A number 3 is 10mm on the Swiss hair clipper attachment.
On the USA attachments a Number 3 is 3/8".
If you do the conversion 3/8 " = 9.525mm, so a Swiss number 3 is a tiny bit longer than the USA equivalent!
Just buy clippers, I spent about 60chf on some and that's less than the price of 2 haircuts.

Re: Male Haircuts

The clipper attachments here (at least at my barber in Germany) are either 6mm, 9mm or 12mm, so the #3 would be a 9mm trim.

Re: Male Haircuts

It was already said here, but after moving here, I just bought a set of clippers and started doing my own. A little scary the first time, but it turns put I can give myself a buzz cut without too much trouble...

If you get a simple #3 all around, why not buy a set of clippers and have someone do it for you. There are gazillions of YouTube how-to videos on cutting hair. Have your friend/girlfriend start out longish, and that way if there are any mistakes, you just cut it a little shorter. Worst case, you have really short hair for a week, but it grows back. At around 40CHF/haircut, a 100CHF set will pay off in no time. This is what my wife does for me, and aside from the first haircut going a little rough, she did as good a job as my US barber by the third try.
