I know many of us have friends and relatives in other parts of Europe or beyond, or just fancy a weekend away. I'm curious to know how often you cross the revered borders of Switzerland for any reason for a period of more than 24hrs.

I leave at least once or twice a week....but its normally work related. So far I have been trying to keep my spare time based in Switzerland.....part of my getting used to the culture idea.

In the job I just left, most of my work was abroad, so I'd usually be away at least once a week. Sometimes I'd get back with enough time for a stop-over in my own apartment, before heading off again.
Now I'm hoping it won't be more than once a month.

I flew to London in early September and found it was 2 years since I'd last flown. I don't count popping into Italy shopping and almost don't count a week in France..... Not very often indeed |

I leave the country on most days, but for 24 hours? Not too frequently, maybe twice a year and that's for our businesses, usually. If I only had more disposable income.... |

I've been here for almost 7 years now and my life is here. I don't really get time anyway!
I get back to the UK about once a year to visit family. Usually for Christmas and/or birthdays, weddings and funerals.

I love to travel! I'd like to leave Switzerland every month, but there's sadly not enough time and, as evilshell said, no disposable income. But I'll be traveling for sure once a year, in the Summer, to visit my mom in Mexico and my dad in Texas. This year I was in America from late March until August, exactly the time when the weather here couldn't be better...

Travelled everywhere round the world (ca. 1100 flights) and now prefer a pleasant Swiss train trip to a bowel inspection at Airport Security.
So the longer I stay here, the less frequent it is.
I am English with multiple children and a wife who thinks a Credit Card must be used regularly else it will self-destruct and cause a Nuclear Winter.
So it's down to "Weddings and Funerals" and a 1 week trip back to England to remind the Grandparents what we look like.
By strange coincidence always coincides with max. possible number of Manchester United home games.
Can I have a prize for longest and most boring reply?

Living so close to the border - I leave CH practically every day - often without knowing it as there is NO bright line in the meadows or grass to tell which country I'm in! + of course lots of visits to family, grand-children and friends in the UK + travelling quite a bit, both CH and abroad. So lucky to have great friends who move in and look after the place and dog+cat - and security (as they are all armed customs officers on patrol at night!).

Ah, but the question was how often do you leave Switzerland for more than 24 hours? I'm assuming you know which side of the border your house is on.
(I've reopened the poll... it's an old thread but I reckon one worth reviving.)

oooops ! Yes, I usually find my house at the end of the day - difficult to miss it. |
