Re: Expensive broccoli

Or a 200g jar of Nescafe coffee (Swiss company I think?) €5.70 in France (CHF 6.90), and a snip at CHF 14.95 in Co-op AND Migros....a mere 116% more expensive!!!!!!

Because Swiss people will pay those prices and French people won't.

What is so hard to understand about this point? Its not tariffs, duties, quality or anything else. For exactly the same item, Swiss will pay more than other European countries therefore the manufacturers and retailers are only too happy to charge more. Couldn't be simpler

Then you should have asked that

Ok, did you ever buy Lindt here yourself? Or a Big Mac? Or a litre of milk?

I long ago gave up the cross border shopping trips...no fun most of the time when you need compete for a parking space with half of Switzerland.

I just pay the mark up.....and then have a rant about it to my fellow expats.

Good one...I like that.

But...rather than be a hostage to daily extortion I'm leaving the country soon.

Lovely to live in an area of the world where you 1. Are Allowed and 2. Can Afford to make such a rational decision, isn't it?

That, my friend, is a free market and free society

Because Lindt&Sprüngli also produces in Germany, France and Italy. And the French facility has a lower costs base

Didn't you state somewhere above that the Swiss readily pay the higher prices ?? And now you report that the Swiss go shopping accross the border

...as Swiss prices compare unfavourably with other European countries we should all just be happy that we don't live in a North Korea type of place?

That's the most bizarre defence of Swiss pricing I've heard yet.

Well done You get 7 smileys.

I didn't defend the pricing, you did when you said that you pay the prices

I'd rather pay less, who wouldn't, so I'm trying to explain it, not defend it

Probably because it's made there (check the label).
