Re: Astra 2F is on - Signal might get weaker

We get Sky with no problems here in Fribourg with just a 75cm dish. Since we moved house we have a better line of sight for the satellite with no trees to cause interference. Only really bad weather can knock it out now. We don't have the sports subscription, but do have everything else. So I'm happy as I can get At The Races for my horse race meetings.

Re: Astra 2F is on - Signal might get weaker

After a new LNB did not fix our issues, we just put in a new 110cm dish and have gone from having approx 80% signal and 50% quality, to 100% signal and 90% quality. We can now receive the channels we were having issues with e.g. Channel 5 among several others.

To be fair, on taking down our old 80cm dish, it seems to have a crack in it which may or may not have affected performance.

After I lost the signal and tried various other options, I have settled for a Raspberry Pi with OSMC installed connected to my network and TV via the hdmi cable.. with certain addons on the pi, Skysports channels works most of the time...
I got rid of the dish and started a subscription to a IPTV supplier. For EUR 35 pr month I get all the SKY Movies and Sky Sports (in HD) channels along with the usual suspects available on the Sky platform (History, BBC HD channels, ITV, RTE1 and RTE2, Ch4, All the Discovery's etc etc etc) in addition to the main US channels all in HD such as NBC, CBS, ABS, TBS and god knows how many US sports channels (don't watch sports but they are included). For an additional EUR 10 you also get all the Scandinavian TV channels (80% of all programming is in English with subtitles) so happy days if you're a telly addict.

Over the last year or so the service has improved immensely and they keep adding channels. The quality is top notch and best of all there is no binding so when your pre payment has ended it stops and starts the second you re-start the subscription. I do this when going on summer vacation which is pretty nifty. You can also take the box with you elsewhere as it's not allocated to a specific IP and no VPN needed as well. Also have 2 weeks re-player on most channels

Had to initially pay EUR 150 for the MAG250 IPTV box and never had any problems with the service...

Me too, I want to know. That's less than we pay for our Sky sub.

Have a look at http://www.iptvchoice.com - works well, with Mag250, I do have the wifi adaptor, I take the box all around Europe when I travel on business. Also if you want to try free stuff http://www.iptvsharing.com can be played on pc by downloading the M3U8 file. I see a certain cricket game is open! Message me if you want.

UK girl at Heart has no particular reputation at present
Problems picking up BBC and other channels

Just before Wimbledon 2015 we started to lose certain channels on our Satellite system from a well known UK Supplier (to whom we pay a monthly fee) and the message always reads "your ___ HD box is not receiving a satellite signal" although we can still see programmes on Channel 5 and lots of American channels. On reading up we find that the BBC and ITV are now using a different Satellite so that the Signal strength to us viewers in Europe is a lot weaker. Just wondering if any of you lovely readers have experienced the same problems and how you've got round it? The HusBot is on the case (slowly - if the new series of Dr Who was on he'd have it sorted but as its only The Great British Bake Off, he's not working at full capacity). As Swisscom is now available in our village (it wasn't when we first arrived so we had to use YKS ) that's our first option although we'd lose a lot of the other channels we do enjoy so it's not our favored option. Any advice would be hugely appreciated, I'd like to say I can find many other ways to amuse myself but I'm very sad as I REALLY LOVE AND MISS THE TV (feel better for that confession)

There's been considerable discussion on this thread I've now merged your post into, so look through the earlier answers and take it from there.

In short, the dish alignment is now much more critical than before, and a bigger dish may be indicated in some cases. I shifted all our feeds to a single dish with a 4-way LNB some time ago when I realised that it was 10cm bigger than the other one, that I removed. Certainly improved things significantly, as did the purchase and use of a simple signal meter like this to more accurately align it.

Thanks Ace1, we'll have a fiddle, make a few adjustments, buy a bigger dish and if all this fails, we'll blow up the apartment block in front of us that stops us from getting a clear path to the signal!

Re: Astra 2F is on - Signal might get weaker

I'm not sure if this only applies to me but recently I can no longer receive ITV HD and Channel 4 HD from my Freesat Box pointed to Astra 28.2!

Is anyone else having the same issues?

I am not getting them either (SD are fine), I know the dish is slightly out, but it could be heavy cloudy skies, will try again in the morning.

Frankly speaking, as long as I have standard definition, I am not worried about HD.

For this reason I've switched to "On Demand" but still would like to be able to watch live programmes once in a while as I still have the satellite setup.

I think receiving TV via internet connection is much better as you don't have to bother with signals and wires running across the house (in and out), it's much neater that way.

Has anyone had problems with satellite signals this week? Iíve seem to have lost decent signals for ITV and BBC 1 from last week onwards.
