UK Winter Fuel Allowance - claimable in CH??

According to the website of the cash-strapped UK government, they are willing to pay between £100 and £200 to you each winter if you were born before July 5 1951. More if you are over 80. There's even a form that specifically mentions Switzerland:

https://www.gov.uk/winter-fuel-payment/how-to-claim

Seems bonkers, but that's socialism. Anyone here applied??

We received an email about this today too. We're not actually eligible as we're not of retirement age yet but the mail contained two links.
One of them is the one you quoted above and the other one which explains a bit more about it is here. http://paullewismoney.blogspot.co.uk...nt-abroad.html

I am eligible for this payment and recently received a letter from the pension service saying that they can no longer use payment orders but would instead credit the account that the normal UK state pension is paid into. It hasn't happened yet, so I will keep an eye on it.

Re: UK Winter Fuel Allowance - claimable in CH??

I read there was some reaction as the retired expats living in Spain having no need for heating will get this allowance.

If it saves one pensioner from freezing to death and bumps up the Euromillions jackpot, I'm all for it. After all, it's not my money

I thought you could only claim if you reached retirement age before leaving the U.K. But it seems to have changed.

Maybe, I know I applied for it once & was told something like that "you could only claim if you reached retirement age before leaving the U.K" - do not remember exactly what was said

I think this is the relevant bit in the article I linked which indicates that the change was only made this year.

'Until this year people who lived outside the UK could not claim the Winter Fuel Payment. If they had already qualified and claimed it in the UK they could keep it if they moved, but they could not claim it for the first time from outside the UK.'

I have received it for the past few years without having done anything other than grow old.
