| | The Ex Neighbor
Holy Crap is the only thing that comes to mind. One of my neighbors, who lived very quietly near me for the past couple of years, decided a month ago to take all her posessions and pile them all at the street curb. I'm not sure if she was a hoarder by definition, but two regular sized surf boards came out of her place, not to mention what is probably 4 times as much stuff that could fit into my apartment.
She had a big terrace, lots of over grown plants. They now have been working for the last 2 weeks solid on all the "destruction" she has done to the place. It's amazing. At this moment they are jackhammering the cement fish pond she constructed. The roots from her plants dug deep into the terrace itself, and looks like they might have to take that down as well.
AND She's Swiss! Well I guess not everyone knows the rules. I am having a beer and watching the whole thing, this is better then tv right now. I certainly can't nap right now.

Are you not allowed to keep surf boards? Or build ponds? Or throw stuff out? |

Are you not allowed to keep surf boards? Or build ponds? Or throw stuff out? | | | | | I meant, the rules of doing stuff that would mind blowingly explode your deposit and then some. I mean in the US when you move sometimes you pay for a cleaning person to move you in or out, but it's no where as clean as the final contract cleans here.
So to do what she did...
Surfboards...allowed, considering she has the same sized apartment as I do, and that size you don't know, but I know, is well, tiny, seems funny.
Build a concrete pond that needs to be jackhammered by two people for an entire day? Yeah, that's preety over the top, in any country.
Throwing stuff out? I meant about the fact she totally F'd up her living space and instead of taking a couple of days to bring it back to normal, they have been on it for weeks.
Those rules.

Isn't it great that people can live this way and not get run out of town by an angry mob for being 'different'.

I don't have a problem with anyone doing something like this on their terrace. But if you rent a property, then decide to vacate it, and leave hardened cement, for the owner of the building to have to rip apart, then yeah, being "different" at the expense of others seems humorous to me. And then after 15 minutes, of what turned into all day ripping apart but a machine that shook the walls of my apartment, on my time that I needed to rest...
What I meant by rules is that constantly people on this forum complain how rule abiding, and how square, and hos strict the Swiss are. I was being sarcastic. And the stuff she put at the curb, like seriously would have taken 3 long trucks to fill, with a tiny gratis sign. To then get blown all up and down the street, in the wind and the rain, while random people pick thru it, the foxes rummage it, and it becomes a big mess me and the neighbors have to help pick up...it's not an angry mob for being "different". It's amazment that there is this big mess.

I think here we would A) be reported by some nosy neighbor that is always looking out the window and B) get a big fine. Sounds like this lady was quite the hoarder and no one knew until she moved. |

Once tracked a couple (placed so much waste at the curb, they filled a truck just at the property) to their new place 700 km away, mailed the summons to the closest Provincial Police station to the couple, and had the summons served by them...They appeared in court back here and plead guilty. |

Did you mean you lived beside her for 2 years, or that she lived there for 2 years?
2 years seems fast for all the house plants to take route!
The cement fish pond did shock me for a renter.
I've known some horders in London. One an ex work colleague from many years ago, met up again a few years back. Could not take my OH in to visit her, as her 4 bedroom house all chock-a-block and not cleanable. Gave up trying to persuade her to organise etc, lost cause.
Had a disabled neighbour who moved in with a sister for a few weeks to get his whole one bedroom flat decorated/renovated. Assisted in the clearing out, to rubbish/recycling, charity shops, storage. Had boxes unopened from TV / Internet shopping.
Guess what a few years later, back to the same old same. Whenever I have been in London, pop in to take out rubbish and recycling once a week, as me and my OH some of the few people he allows past his front door.
Guess this story might appear in your local newspapers with pictures, let us know if this happens with links - thanks
