We have three at work, but only the Italians use them, so that's almost one per person!

Tom
Three what? Microwaves, money folders or weather controllers?

Re: Why don't the Swiss own microwaves?

The Swiss don't want packaged microwave meals because of the complexities of recycling. At least that'd be a good reason.
We once had a management trainee in the office, you know, one of those young guys with slick hair who knows everything better. Our boss absolutely pamepered him and never had time for anything else when he was around. The young guy would frequently tell experienced engineers what to do and generally acted as if he was the only person around who knew anything of value, and thought his projects were more important than anybody else's and expected people to jump to it and drop anything when he needed help.

Well, one day this guy had bought himself a microwave lunch and placed it in the microwave in the kitchen. He asked us, how does this, work? Should he unpack it? We assured him, no need to unpack, don't even take it out the box. So he did as we told him and we all went off to work only to hear a resounding bang from the kitchen as the package exploded coating the inside of the microwave with lasange gue.

Because it's a little known fact that you need a microwave to control the weather and even if you do have one the atmospheric peturbances generated by the energetic nose blowing and heavy smoking are so severe that they overwhelm the power of the microwave.
And the presence of brown sugar and self raiing flower mess up the algorithm, which is why the Swiss don't like them.

Re: Why?

I've only been gone a couple of hours, what the heck is going on? I go out for a bit of fresh air, I mean it's not as though I have much time to myself, keeping an eye on all your comings and goings takes a lot of time out of my day, do you think I've nothing better to do??!! Now play nicely and tidy up this mess!

So, I take it you all realise that AussieSwiss hasn't contributed a single post to the 6 pages of consequent discussion following his OP?

A classic troll & you've all fed it for 6 pages.

This is actually 3 threads merged with little feeling or care for the OP or any subsequent poster.

I think we're all over it

Good lord, theres a lot of vindictive petty people on here.

Aussiswiss asked a reasonable question. Its not that different to the many many 'why do the swiss...' threads on EF already. Im not his biggest fan but people do seem to be jumping on his/her back about the tiniest of things. Let it go, people. life's too short to start foaming at the mouth because of a post on a website.
The post-1-question was quite reasonable as such, BUT "Aussieswiss" has got a reputation for a bit bizarre posts, which invite jokes.

You when reading the replies can see that several replies were factual and to the point. And I do NOT see "vindictive, petty" people in action.

Interesting however is how the microwave-oven conquered the world. The first prototype, a monster of 340 kilos and a height of 1.80m was built in 1947, But even in 1965, such ovens had a price-tag of US$ 495-plus. The ovens began to be popular in the 1970ies when the prices came down. I still remember when Mum purchased the first one in about 1978 . Apparently, almost all the neighbours had one within a few years. The percentage of households with a microwave in Germany is 72%. Suppose it is similar in Switzerland, possibly rather a few points higher.

I before 2008 used the one of Mum at times, but in my own apartment had the kitchen-grill I have in use still, and which allows to grill sausages most excellently. I did not have enough space when I got to the apartment where I am now.
