Which cinemas are showing the hobbit in 48 fps?

Anyone happen to know which cinemas are showing the hobbit in the controversial 48 fps instead of the usual 24?

All my powers of Google search have failed me thus far...

It's filmed in 48fps...I guess there are no options to show at less than that unless you want to see every second frame dropped...

Traditionally, each frame was shown twice to smooth out the phi phenomenon... This was in the days of 35mm film when the original LOTR films were shot. These films were 9 reels long + trailer pack, easily 5km or more in length...

Nope.

3x, i.e. 72 fps.

So how do you see 48fps at 24fps without losing every second frame ?

Or was that just a drive by guess ?

You said there were no options to see it without it having dropped frames, as though that would somehow massively impact the viewing experience. I've seen it, it looks like any normal 24fps movie. You don't notice any dropping of frames vs any normal movie shot at 24fps, as you can see if you check out the 24fps trailer.

That is your interpretation, I said nothing of the sort. My statement is correct, your rebuttal is flawed.

Whatever.

As for the your claims that there is no noticeable difference, I suggest you read the reviews from the people that have seen both and read up on all the commotion... There clearly is a huge difference. You obviously haven't seen the film at both 24 and 48 have you ?
What you see at 24fps is what you expect to see, you miss nothing from the normal experience but miss the extra detail and clarity of motion supplied by the 48fps version. How can know there is no difference if you haven't sen the comparative 48fps version ?

Pathé Kuchlin, Basel is showing it at the higher frame rate. We just saw it at the standard rate in 2D and thoroughly enjoyed it.

In that case it was a confusing statement, because it reads as though the 24fps version would be a negative thing to see due to it "skipping frames". Otherwise, what was your intended point? Maybe it was so subtle I missed it.

I didn't say there was no difference between the 24fps and 48fps (which there obviously is and I even I posted a link directly comparing them, so I'm not sure why you would think I was saying otherwise), I said there was no discernible difference between the 24fps version and regular 24fps movies, following on from your "I guess there are no options to show at less than that unless you want to see every second frame dropped." statement.

Those review are cool. They totally do the job for me: I want to see it in 48 fps.

The very archaic 24 fps is actually the reason I avoided cinema in the last 10 years. The reviews are actually very funny because they a) see the 24 fps of 'traditional' (better outdated) cinema as a good feature, a hallmark, even a dogma. b) they compare it vs. video games, tv soap operas, theater plays, etc. instead with the only true thing: reality with an infinity frames per seconds.

I am really looking forward to faster and more lifelike pans (w/o headache inducing stuttering), natural panoramic views, flight over scenes, and much more.

According to cineman.ch, the only theaters that specify the 48 fps are in Aarau, Schoeftland and Wetzikon. Doesn't necessarily mean that there aren't others showing it in that format as well but it isn't specifically noted otherwise.

Each to there own, but I prefer my movies to look like movies & not bleedin' Neighbours.

Some standards require the use a rate of 72fps, others chose 48. The theatre I worked for as a projectionist used projectors with a shutter calibrated to 48fps. The film, however went through the projector at 24fps, so each frame was shown onscreen 2x.

The system we used was very similar to the one pictured below- we even used this exact model of Christie platters, but our actual projectors were from a different manufacturer and had a digital control system.

As mentioned above, some of the Pathé cinemas are showing it in the High Frame Rate (HFR).

I don't quite think we are on the same wavelength judging from that rather nonsensical response. Let's just agree to disagree.

Of course, probably best if you dont just barge in next time with vague meaningless rebuttals.
