Wow only in Switzerland!

The police turn up to collect unpaid fines?
It's fantastic.
It means there's so little crime they've got nothing better to do...

Wow speedster, getting a better reaction than the last poster bemused by police knocking at the door over a speeding fine.

Everyone thought it was perfectly normal then and slandered the poor OP for questioning the audacity of the situation.

Police were at my door over a Traffic Ticket?

Fickle bunch these EFers
Haa, man, you guys have been easy on me.

Well there was the difference of the discrepancy between named driver and photographed driver, but the bemusement was mainly the police knocking on the door over such an incident, everyone was totally on board with the police then.

Just saying
That was at 6pm, not 5:30 in the frigging morning.

Ha, how longs a piece of string?

Well, I would expect in this country the 5:30 be more appropriate. As most Swiss i know and worked with are up and readying themselves to be at work by this time, and on way home from work / just arriving at the 6pm slot, alas more chance of catching someone at home at 5:30am than 6pm.

You also have women knocking on your door at 5:30am? Care to share any tips with the rest of us?

Yes but not for only 40CHF

I remember speaking with an officer many years back:

"The best thing about 'calling' on 'people' at 4am - is that are almost always in"

Someone is ringing my entrance bell like crazy this morning at 5:30am!

I get up and impatiently ask "who is this??" on the intercom, and its the police!
Today is a normal working day. Why are you still sleeping at 05:30?

I've heard about this before. A Swiss friend mentioned that this especially was practice for foreigners, I don't know if that is true btw.

Re: Scammed by the Zurich 'police'?

What I find most amazing about this is that you get two of them to your door for only CHF 40.

I don't know of any other trade in Switzerland where you can get two qualified personnel to your door for such a lowly sum.

If only they would provide removal services, decorating, electrical wiring and plumbing services it would be wonderful!

Yes, it's a terrible affront that a group of completely independent people, consisting of thousands of regular participants, does not always express the same opinion to similar circumstances.

Another reason to live in the French part, over here they show up on your door at 7:30 am, never 5:30 am.

Re: Scammed by the Zurich 'police'?

I once got stip searched by zuri cops, behind their van.I had done nothing and had nothing to hide.. once they were done i asked for a cable tie to replace my belt. They were very polite. The sad thing was.. that i was the only person at the time with a copy of a permit. i feel that they pulled me out because of it..I did feel a bit violatated.. at the same time i was not going to confront them .. my thinking, stay calm and move on. Ive heard worse stories from swiss people.

doubt they would come round for 40chf.... they might come round for a few hundred and after you have not paid for a long time...
not for the money but for impersonating a police officer?

Ok, so I just called the Zurich police (thanks mirfield) and they told me that this is completely normal. In fact, he said to me, 'what is your problem, you didn't pay a ticket, so they come to get the money'?

To which I replied, 'I have no problem at all. It was actually a convenient way to pay!' I then explained to him that I told the story to a friend of mine and she said this was a scam, blah blah, and that really, I was just curious.

So, anyway, the mystery is over. The police will show up (in pairs I might add) to collect on unpaid tickets, and it is [can be] perfectly legitimate.

Weird.
This is further proof that there isn't enough crime in Switzerland.

I once had a police officer warn me that my shoelaces were untied and put his arm out to stop me walking until I tied them.

It is weird.

Re: Scammed by the Zurich 'police'?

Well, I think it's absolutely ridiculous for cops to come to your home at 5:30 in the morning over a *&%$ing traffic ticket! After all, not everyone here gets up so early. What if you had children that were woken up because of it?

Especially considering the fact that CH is the (or one of the) richest countries in the world... it's not like they're really hurting for the money.

What would they have done if the OP didn't have the 40 CHF in cash? Taken him/her to jail?

Now you know why.

Remember, Greece can't even collect taxes.
