Yeah but they - in your example - would have to cross Germany first.
We might as well mothball those two F/A-18 again.

Why do you think we enjoy being an island but not in the sea?
This is still my favourite news item from Cold War Britain where the spirit of 'Dads Army' lives on in many pubs
around Britain like the Bulls Head in Monyash, Derbyshire. Where you could be sure the Landlord would
'get on his bike' to warn the villagers that, 'The Russia are coming, the Russia are coming, the Russia are coming !!'

ATV Today March 1981 - the Russia are coming !! - fast forward the video to 02:05 mins

What should I expect, then...we trained with Russkies for American invasion, every 6mo. With sirens, gas masks and all.

Can't believe J missed this cute thing today, sniff.
That’s nothing

Zurich gets invaded every day by hoardes of yokels from Schwyz and Zug in their huge SUVs who don’t understand the concept of tram tracks or parallel parking, and further hoards of barbarians from the Aargau wearing white socks and not even understanding the concept of a left turn

We need barbed wire around the cantonal border and machine guns to mow down the ignoramuses . Peacefully and consensually of course and without hurting anybody . This is Switzerland after all .

Re: Nationwide siren test - it's the UK's turn on Tuesday 22nd June

This will no doubt be of interest for those British Expats in Switzerland who divide their time commuting
between Britain and Switzerland or work from home ( by dividing their time, working from CH & working from the UK )
or simply love dividing your time with friends & family between CH & the UK when restrictions permit
during the Covid pandemic & have a British mobile.

Be aware that your UK mobile phone could erupt by emitting a loud air raid siren noise on Tuesday 22nd June,
upon which your likely to take cover under your computer desk while fiddling with your smartphone to see
what's up but Don't Panic !! it's unlikely to be any inbound ICBM missiles emanating from the former Soviet
Union and most likely to be one of Boris's Jolly Japes, testing the new Emergency Alerts System direct
to your mobile.

Even if you don't get hit by the Sirens on Tuesday, Boris is sure to catch you out on your mobile on
Tuesday 29th June, if Reading is the place to be when working from home in the UK.

Emergency Mobile Siren alerts - Planned tests for Jun 2021

Not new. Been done 2013.

As <<the idea is that if you are in an area where an emergency occurs then you will be sent a location based alert which will convey important protective action for you to take.>> I wonder, if ALL mobiles receive it, even if one is on Swiss .... Japanese .... whatever provider.
Or will the tourists just wonder, if the Brits have gone mad when they all start running?

Re: Nationwide siren test - this Wednesday 13:30

Remember, not only is tomorrow the yearly siren test, but it is also groundhog day, thus 2020 - 2!

Therefore, it may not actually be a test!

Good to see things being tested. In the event of a real emergency, what should people do? Does anyone have a bunker bag ready to go?

As immediate measure, stay indoors, close the windows and do not drink tap water.

Switch on the radio, or other media, to tell you what to do. As examples:
  • if the water supply has been contaminated, you will be instructed not to use tap water, whether or not boiling it will render it safe, or whether you should buy bottled water, and probably also whom to contact in case you are unable to source water
  • if there has been a serious emission of noxious gases, you may be told to stay indoors and keep the windows closed
  • if a dam has burst, such that the area in which you are living is likely to be flooded, you will be instructed to collect your formal papers and your most valuable transportable goods and either evacuate your premises yourself or whom to contact if you are unable to do so with out assistance
and so on.

Not quite even if they take Kyiv, they will still have to change trains in Budapest before they reach Switzerland.
