How do you find out about events in Basel ?

Hi,

I am actively involved in a number of amateur theatre groups in Basel and every year the same question arises: How can we ensure that the maximum number of people know about the event ?

Normally, I will put up posts on English Forum, Facebook, BaselExpats yahoo list, GCLocals, Internations and of course our mailing list.

However, I still wait lots of people who have no idea about the Semi Circle plays, Panto or the International Comedy standup comedy at the Kuppel.

This year I would like to get the message out to more people.

How do you know if something is going on ? Where else can we advertise ?

Thanks ...and I am interested to hear of any new ideas.

Have fun
Martin

As Niamhie said above, word of mouth. IMHO it is the best way. People read posts but they listen to their friends. Sooooo, better get networking, or hire a publicity person.

Fliers on the noticeboards of Roche, Novartis, DSM, ISB, BIS, Univ Basel etc.. are particularly effective

Hey,
I would love to be part of this amateur theatre group. Been involved in acting, especially street plays, in India before i moved here.

Best,
Arghya

Re: How do you find out about events in Basel ?

Hi,

thanks for the replies. I have been suffering from flu so sorry that I did not reply.

For the semi circle the web site is http://www.semi-circle.ch they do 2 shows a year one in the spring and one in the autumn. The autumn show is normally a set of short plays which is great way of a allowing a lot of people to get involved.

The panto group has a web site http://www.baselpanto.org and we put a traditional panto every December. This year the show will be "Beauty and the Beast" and the auditions will be May.

The gay beggars is the another english language theatre groups connected to the university http://www.gaybeggars.ch

Every group is always look for people to help out either onstage or back stage.

Have fun

Martin

Re: How do you find out about events in Basel ?

Recently, in Basel, I visited the BackwarenOutlet, which sells products from four different bakeries... from yesterday.
Address and photo see here: http://www.tageswoche.ch/de/2015_48/basel/704852/

Inside, they have a fridge on which notices were stuck, for a film festival, for example. I'd imagine that you could ask them to hang up your posters, too.

Re: How do you find out about events in Basel ?

It's a bit of a chicken-egg thing, but if you're promoting your effort in other forums, why not reddit.com/r/basel on the side. It's quick, and bootstrapping that group into activity would be nice for some netizens.

Re: How do you find out about events in Basel ?

I'm starting to use Instagram a bit to promote things (in addition to Facebook, word of mouth, all of the other things that you're doing.) Since your groups are so visual, it would be fun to post photos of your rehearsals, fliers, etc. You are also able to both set the location and then tag your post with #Basel, etc... It's worth a try.
