Re: Favourite Products or Brands in Switzerland

Loads of things:

Coop Prix-Garantie range generally good value. My favourites include their Camembert, Brie, low-calorie fizzy grapefruit, Weissbier

Most Betty Bossi products are good quality - pizzas, pasta etc.

Ovomaltine choc / biscuits etc

Cailler chocolate

Most Swiss bio fruit and veg is good.

Swiss dairy products, especially yogurts, ice-cream, milk are fantastic. Best I've ever had.

Some lovely breads and mueslis.

And probably plenty more, but these are the ones that come to mind.

Famously, there are some things that you can't get here in the supermarkets (English style sausages and bacon etc, good English cheese, to name just a few) but as the OP says, there are plenty of alternatives to explore.

ELMEX = GABA
http://www.gaba.ch/htm/530/de_CH/Pro...tm?Brand=elmex

SINALCO
http://www.sinalco.ch/de/geschichte/zeittafel
here it indeed is BOTH ways but Sinalco CH is def. Swiss

ODOL ---- so sorry for the mistake, YES German !

- KNORR btw. is partially based HQ-etc in Thayingen/SH and in Singen
- ELMEX -- the main production is now in Poland

More important was/is that Messrs Sulzer and Nestle were Germans
-- here the interesting bio of Mr Nestle
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henri_Nestl%C3%A9

Interesting is the history of Pelikan, an originally German company which in the 1980ies became Swiss but now is in Malaysia ownership. One of the Pelikan factories was just some 300 meters away from where I grew up in Zürich

Many Swiss companies were/are partially German, particularily in the NorthZürich and Schaffhausen and Thurgau area

Re: Favourite Products or Brands in Switzerland

Disappointing that this is not a more active thread, I find local things from time to time en Suisse that I love - happy to share

Latest for me is some soup I stumbled upon at a small epicerie in the village of Sépey in Valais from Jisal - this particular variety was a Carrot & Lentil soup and really outstanding. I now regret not sampling the others they had.
