I'm here right now. We paid chf10 for seats so we have a good view and is not too crowded at all. If you can then do come down.
Where did you buy tickets from? (I'll note it for next year

We went into town this morning and there was a caravan set up on Paradeplatz. Kids and adults are 10CHF. The first row of seating gets booked by all the ladies who want to give flowers to their loved ones who are in the parade, so you'll most likely get 2nd row which is still great, and better than standing for hours in the heat.

I then proceeded to get into an argument with a lady who insisted we were in her friends' seats. Her friends weren't there; we were. With tickets. I don't know if I won the argument or whether she gave up trying to understand my awful German.

Re: sechseläuten in Zurich - times?

gorgeous day to be standing around for 35 minutes.

phone pics from the cheap seats. Couldn't see the horses etc. When the body and head exploded it was quite spectacular actually. I'll forget the waiting and remember the explosions.

Re: sechseläuten in Zurich - times?

We spent most of today in town so by 4pm we'd had enough and went home to watch the fire on TV. We did get photos of the Böög being set up in the morning, so I was happy with that.

Think like a Swiss:
- too hot: excellent summer
- too cold, rain: bad
- too cold or rain during your holidays: extremely bad

Shall we open a thread in the complaints corner to start complaining about the weather?

Haha. There probably is one and it would be never ending.

I've heard people referring to the bad summer, but not actually say what that entails. For me a bad summer is all of the above (including the too hot in a country without air-conditioning). 25 degrees and sunny every day please.

Re: sechseläuten in Zurich - times?

Does anyone know what the St. Gallen motto means?

"Züri iineh! – d´St.Galler stönd scho z´Rapperswil."

I ran the description through Google translate, but I still don't get it:

St.Gallen will sich einnehmend präsentieren.

Occupy Zurich! - the St Gallers are already at Rapperswil (that is, they -and their canton - are closer than you think)... perhaps.

Quite a popular question of Zürich Primary School teachers is to ask the pupils about the Cantons on the Lake of Zürich. While most are well aware of the Canton of Schwyz, few identify Rapperswil with St. Gallen.
