Re: Canadians in Switzerland

I see and appreciate the reasoning for this group, it just feels a bit weird.

I have to admit I like the diversity of people and wish I spoke about 6 more languages so I could communicate with people from many more places sometimes...

Re: Canadians in Switzerland

Someone please tell me this bar isn't as bad as the website?

It feels like a teenage hangout with a terrible website that keeps talking about having great "fun" at night, but the photos only have men in them. Reminds me of the Brunie in Toronto.

Has anyone been there before?

"Brunie"... hehe. That really made me laugh. I'm from Toronto and have been there many times (when I was somewhat younger).

The website and photos of the place just give me the wrong vibe... Like someone's going to drop some rohypnol in my drink or something for "FUN".

ok, extreme, but this place's website makes me worry.

It's not in the Old Port but on Sherbrooke West there is a Cajun restaurant called La Louisianne. It my absolute favorite restaurant and its delicious. Highly recommended.

If you're there on a Sunday and the weather is nice, head on up to Mont Royal and check out the tam-tams. I've never seen anything like it, quite an experience!

We have a few Canadians mixed in with the "southerners" in our Flag Football team. New players always welcome, check out the events calendar for forthcoming dates or send a PM. We meet and play in Zürich.
is there an age limit? Hubby used to play football in high school, quite successfully I was told but he's approaching the big four-oh and hasn't played in years..

''Real'' Canadian living in Zürich for a little over two years. Up for stout sometime!

(Struggling to find a job after getting a Master's here. Don't want to hijack the thread, but advice appreciated. Are some Kantons more Canadian-friendly than others?)
everyone loves Canadians. It's just that it is difficult to find a job for everyone right now..

Most immigrants in Canada have a very difficult time finding work for the fact that they don't have any "Canadian experience". It's a serious problem back home especially for the highly educated. I don't think it's really much different here. What field are you in. Had any luck since this posting?

Re: Canadians in Switzerland

If you ever happen to get to Thun, there's a Canadian bar (clocktowerstation.ch).

Awesome, homemade hamburgers and great steaks. They also have a good selection of Canadian beers, including Kokanee.

Do you think it is easier for us Canadians to assimilate than Americans here in Switzerland? I am not sure but have had so many American friends leave after less than a year stay.
Many Banks and Insurance companies will not hire Americans anymore
from what I hear. Additionally, there are only about 3 Banks that will
give Americans accounts.

I don't think it is a social issue. It is more of a pain in the arse of
daily life issue.

I have been here since 2001 and have assimilated quite well.

If you make an effort to learn the language, People are more
accepting.
