lost my spare key.. what should I do?

We received two keys for our apartment from property manager. Well, I lost one . What should I do to get an extra key?

Contact the property manager.

And be prepared to pay.

Unfortunately Bravoawan they charge you an arm and a leg here for a lost key as the have to replace all locks. I'd call your landlord explain the situation, they may let it slide, but I would prepare for a bit of nasty bill. Sorry for the bad news. Alternatively get another cut if its not a registered key.

Find someone who lives close enough to the French border to get them cut while doing a weekly shop at Geant. Been discussed here ad nauseum before.
Duplicate key
charge for lost keys
House key is missing

Re: lost my spare key.. what should I do?

If its a computerized key, it would be very difficult(and I am guessing expensive) to get a spare made.

We lost our apt key a few months back. I registered/informed about "lost key" at the local fund buro (basically the same place that we applied for our residence permit). The landlord brought back our key in about 3 weeks time. We were surprised and very relieved

I would suggest you inform the landlord about lost key but ask him to wait a few weeks before changing locks or fining you for new locks/lost key. You might just get lucky. All the Best !

Not sure what you mean by 'computerized', but if you look through the other threads you'll see that the most common key systems used in Switzerland are indeed possible to simply get copied in France. There's also discussion about the legality and/or morality of doing so.

I think that you owe it to your neighbours to fess up and pay the megabill whe it comes (assuming it accesses shared areas which is the norm).

Your house insurance will pay for the key replacement, if you lost it a long way away...

I thought they only paid for replacements if they were stolen and not if you just lost it.

Those are quite easy to copy, I've had it done in Italy many times.

Re: lost my spare key.. what should I do?

It's EXTREMELY unlikely that the locks in your apartment are electronic. So it's just a key.

As pointed out, KABA and Keso keys will be hard to get duplicated in Switzerland.

I'd be doing LOTS of checking and searching before taking a next step.

Did you take it to locksmith to ask for copy?

Sometimes as easy as that, if you need permission they will advise
