University Hospital-Basel

Hi people!
Since I didnt get many hits on my introductory post, I decided to make a thread on here
I wondered if anyone of you could perhaps give me a quick insight into how the everyday work life is for someone working at the Hospital, specifically, at one of the research labs at ICFS-Basel.
Also, this summer being a busy one due to Euro '08...shall I be concerned of any street violence etc?
I am really nervous about this, Canada is very very peaceful when it comes to sport violence...I myself never experienced it in Toronto eventhough leafs always loose : except this one time a few yrs ago, when a visiting Chiliean team fan made some trouble...but the authorities took good care of them.

Hi Samie,

I work at the Universitätspital right now in Basel and find everything very safe. I have never had to worry about crime but I have never been there for anything large such as the Euro Championships. Life is hard in the hospital because I don't speak fluent German yet and most people speak in Swiss German so I don't meet too many people. Hopefully, it'll change or will be different for you. Give me a PM if you want to find out more.

They serve beer at the ACC - why would you leave it to go fighting in the streets?

I know nothing about the labs you're referring to but there are other researchers onboard......who might be able to help?

Thanks for the swift reply, Fluffylily and R.L
hmmm, about the language...although I think I will survive, that doesnt sound too good
Toronto being very anglophone, unfortunately, I only speak English.
Perhaps I will take some crash courses in everyday German, depending on how much I can spare from my lab work.
Fluffy, I think I will take you up on that offer
I do have a few queries regarding food in the cafe' and such...will PM you in a while
Thanks a bunch, It is much appreciated.
Samie
PS: "leafs" as I mentioned in my earlier post, is the local hockey team...we have had the longest historical streaks of contant loses!

Re: University Hospital-Basel

Hi. I was looking at this thread while searching about Nursing jobs in Basel. I am a nurse from the US and only speak English. Do you know of any English speaking nurses working at the hospital? Do you know if it is possible to work in the hospital? I've looked at Novartis and Roche for study related positions but have not seen any.

Regards,

Aluther
