Computer guys - Want to sell my iMac but not sure what to list it at

Hi guys, I have an old iMac

Specs if I copy/paste it says -

iMac

24", early 2008

Processor: 3.06 GHz Inter Core 2 Duo

Memory: 4GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS 512 MB

Software: OS X 10.8.4

-

It is in top condition. How much can I expect to knock it off for?

Thanks

Wow? Serious, you think?

If so I just give it to my 8 year old neice, not worth even selling it for that much

Why don't you do a quick search on Ricardo.ch, put in
iMac 24 and see various details for something similar to what you have.

if you decide to sell, you should advise whether you still have original packing, disks & if you are offering keyboard & mouse, & if so what kind

Don't think you mentioned the hard disk size, if you are planning to sell it without, that should also be stated

Too much work involved. I suggest that you just post it for sale here with a price tag of 500 bucks. In about 10 minutes, you'll have a multitude of experts telling you what they think it's really worth.

As you can buy a new PC laptop for 300 nobody will pay very much for an old iMac.

Re: Computer guys - Want to sell my iMac but not sure what to list it at

According to my rule of thumb for tech gear - which goes like this:-

20% of the original purchase price (**for non Apple kit it's 10%) becomes the residual value of the device, basically what the device will be worth after 3 years, in your case based on an original price of 1899 your residual value would be 379.80

Subtract the residual price from the original purchase price and divide the result by 4. In this case it gives a figure of 379.80, same as the residual price. This is your yearly loss that you'll lose from the original purchase price straight out of the showroom and for ever subsequent year thereafter for up to 3 years. So:

Showroom Price: 1899
Worth in 1st year: 3 x Yearly loss + Residual price = 1519.2
Worth in 2nd year: 2 x Yearly loss + Residual price = 1139.4
Worth in 3rd Year: 1 x Yearly loss + Residual price = 759.6
Worth in 4th year: Residual price only =379.8

After the 4th year the residual price is halved so the worth in the 5th year would be 189.9. After the 5th year it would be worth nothing (in terms of trade price)

Basically your computer, as it's in it's 4th year of ownership, is worth around 200. Allowing for the fact that is trade price you could add between 50% to 75% for a private sale meaning you could expect 300 - 350 for it.

I'll allow the bankers and accountants amongst us to call BS on my method, but so far it's proven to be more or less correct.

**Apple kit gets a higher residual price because it tends to hold its value better than kit from other manufacturers.

Prices are set to drop even more as soon as this bad boy hits the stores in Autumn.
Doubles as a waste bin, so you will get more mac for your buck.
