Send boxes/bike from the UK

Hello,

I have been doing some searches, but I have not found anything related to this, which seems a bit strange to me. Sorry if this has been asked before, since I do not know it is so uncommon.

I came to Switzerland 8 months ago with a six-months contract, with the intention of going back to the UK when it finished. But it has been extended and I am happy here, so I am considering staying even for some years if possible.

I left some boxes and my bike in the UK and moved here just with two big suitcases carried on a plane. In some trips to the UK I have brought some extra stuff, but obviously I cannot put my bike in a suitcases and bringing everything would cost more time and trips than simply hiring something.

They are, however, just three boxes with clothes, another one with electronic/books/videogames and a folding bike. It is not that I need a lorry for it. They are not first-need items -obviously, since I lived without them for eigth months so far-, so I do not care if they take two months to arrive.

Currently I hire a "depot" in London, but it is not cheap and if I am staying here for years, it is quite stupid to keep things there. And I miss my bike!!

Does anybody know about some low-cost way of sending some boxes and a bike here? Some door-to-door service, if possible. Of course I can always take the items to the Post Office, but it does not look a good solution (even if it is just because I do not have any means to carry the stuff to the nearest one, lol)

Thank you!

ask someone like Luker Brothers as to when they're next over and ask if there's a cubic metre for you to use in their truck.

Once it's in the country somewhere, you'll be able to shift it more easily.

http://www.csomagkuldes.co.uk/ That's a hungarian company. Probably on the way back to Hungary, they can 'drop off' your stuff. (I think it can be cheaper than the average)

Re: Send boxes/bike from the UK

It sounds like there is very little to bring, why don't you just go back, sort them into 20kg boxes (you'll probably find you can chuck some things out while you do this), and pay for extra baggage on easyjet? It will probably work out cheaper than shipping.

Your bike also just needs to go in a bag or a box (wrap all your clothes around for protection and efficient packaging) and the airline will bring that too. A bike shop like Evans will probably even give you a box for the bike for free, one of the ones that they get their bikes delivered in, though depending on how small your bike folds up you might not even need something that big.

Re: Send boxes/bike from the UK

OR do it as a couple of train trips from London. Use a big suitacse with wheels ( or two of them if you can manage that) That way thre will be no luggage costs. Book the trains for weekends well in advance, and they are quite cheap ( you could always fly to the UK, then come back by train on Sunday afternoon.)

ALternatively, as well a the Hungarian company mentione, there are London baed consoidators who ned things over in small vans that are going back and forward to other European countries. - I used one once for getting boxe from the UK to Bratislava. NO problems and cheaper than fight options.

Re: Send boxes/bike from the UK

Thank you very much for your responses!! I am sorry I did not answer before, but I have been moving around a bit lately, reading the forum on my cellphone and answering from there is a pain.

I am looking for something like the Hungarian vans or the other London-based ones... something that can pick my stuff there and bring it to my door here, even if it is not supereconomic. I also have thought about driving there, carrying things in my car and driving back, but maybe that is the most uncomfortable and most expensive option, with the Eurostar ticket, maybe a hotel for a night on the way, several days...

I do not want to carry the stuff by myself here. That forces me to take taxis in London (not very cheap!) and also fly directly to Lugano with Swiss and Darwin in Business for the extra weight (not very cheap either!). Flying to Milano and then carrying boxes to the parking seems also a pain... buf, I do not want even to think about it.

The main reason I am reluctant to do that is that maybe at some point I will have to do the opposite... so another pain!! But at this point I have spent almost 900 GBP in my storage in London, so I could have perfectly shipped my belongings here (and have with me my beloved bike!)

Thank you very much! I do not know if I get stressed too easily, but all these logistic things really make me lose my sleep... pack up, coordinate pick-up, coordinate delivery, the need to be in two different countries at a very specific moments... I deal horribly with these things.

Re: Send boxes/bike from the UK

Hello

I would like to send an electric bike from London, UK to Flims, Switzerland, door to door. Can anyone recommend a company to do that, and how much it would cost. Have any of you researched this already (to save me 'reinventing the wheel' pun intended!) I do not want to take it by plane as that would involve too much lifting and we will not have a bike rack to transport the bike along with our luggage on a hire car from Zurich to Flims. I would rather arrange for it to be sent and for someone to be there to receive the bike when it gets delivered, and to be there when we arrive in 2 weeks time!
