B-type residence permit/ work permit processing time for non-EU citizens

Dear friends,

I am a non EU citizen (though have lived in EU since 2006) and have got work offer in Liechtenstein with the option to live in Switzerland. The company has applied for my residence permit in Switzerland the very last week of May (ie on Monday it is already 8 weeks since the application date). It will be a B-permit as far as I know. Does anyone know how long it usually takes to have residence permit/work permit for non-EU citizens in Switzerland?

Thank you.

Put the words "permit" and "time" into the search box in the top-right of the screen and you'll find about 40 threads about this.

Thanks. You were right over 40 posts already in the forum. I think I need some time to get used to that.
Though useful answers and information are still welcome if someone had similar cases.

My B took about 3 weeks from application to arrival in the post, after 8 weeks, I'd be asking my employer to chase things up

Best of luck fella

I am also non-EU. It took about 7 weeks to get my permit.

All the best

Re: B-type residence permit/ work permit processing time for non-EU citizens

I registered at the Kreisburo in Zurich 2 weeks ago and got fingerprinted last Wednesday. The person at the Migrationsamt told me to expect it in 10 business days. Then I got a letter saying they were suspending my application until I provide the FBI check, which I did the very next day. Let's see if the permit really gets here in 2 weeks...

Re: B-type residence permit/ work permit processing time for non-EU citizens

Any employer here has to prove to the Swiss authorities (and presumably this applies to Liechtenstein too) that they can't find a Swiss, EU national or someone else already living here with a valid permit who could do the job. This is what the procedure is:

It could be they're having problems because of this, but I'd ask your HR people if they've heard anything yet. If they needed more paperwork from you I would have expected them to be in touch before now.
