What to do in Basel during heatwave ?

Dear All

I'm a London fella who will be moving to CH tomorrow after accepting a role based in Basel. I'm super excited.

The question I have is what is there to do in Basel when the weather is sooo good ? Do you guys swim in the Rhine ? Is it reasonably clean ?

Your comments are appreciated,

-Has

Any warm summer day is a good day to float down the river. You can enter the river at the Tinguely museum and float to the Johanniterbrucke. Just make sure you buy your wickelfisch in advance (they sell them all over the city - we got ours at the Thalia bookstore).

Re: What to do in Basel during heatwave ?

There are four things to do in Basel when it's crazy hot.

1. Post on EF asking if anyone is selling a fan or aircon unit
2. Swim in the Rhine (my solution - it's fantastic fun and defintely clean enough)
3. Go to the little nudist beach area then rush back and fake outrage on EF
4. Take a train from the main station to the highest mountain you can find, and play in the snow. Then go back to EF and say you built a snowman while everyone else gives their tales of discomfort and sorrow.

For a moment there, I thought you had decided it was warm enough for you to swim afterall.

Good luck with the move.
As a fellow london explant, one who has been here a month now, I'm really enjoying Basel.
And yes, swimming/floating in the river here is great fun. And certainly something you wouldn't want to do in the Thames!

Re: What to do in Basel during heatwave ?

The Rhine swim ok but there are many open air pools around. St Jackobs in Basel is pretty good but my fave when I lived in Dornach was Arlesheim pool. Take the 10 tram to Im Lee and a 7 minute and 20 second walk or S3 from SBB and a 10minute walk from Dornach station? Take a picnic and enjoy or go to Scotland!

The dictionary definition I can find is

to transfer (living tissue) from its natural site to a new site or to a culture medium

which I think sums up my situation (and probably many more of ours) quite nicely

An explant is a dead tree. As in: it is an ex-plant. It has ceased to be.

HTH.
