I'd also be interested to see your calculations for the price difference of the laptop between De and CH in this particular instance to see what you were basing your logic on?

So most likely to have the 2 prong euro plug.

then deduct 19% German VAT and add 8% Swiss VAT. this makes the difference.

I prefer the Swiss QWERTZ keyboard, which obviously is available only in Switzerland. If you want the standard American QWERTY, probably UK too, these may be available when purchasing from Amazon in Germany -- but it would definitely be a good idea to check before ordering!

then deduct 19% German VAT and add 8% Swiss VAT. this makes the difference. | | | | | So lets think about this... - 900 EUR - 18% DE MSWT = 740.46 EUR
- 740.46 EUR + 8% CH VAT = 799.7 EUR
- 799.7 EUR + 30 EUR CH customs/handling charges = 829.7 EUR
- 830 EUR in CHF is 901chf
Which part did you say makes the difference? |

That is a bit better, but imo 70chf is not worth losing a Swiss keyboard (which is pretty essential here in CH unless you are having a short-term stay) and 2 year local warranty. If it has a warranty issue then you are looking at another 30chf minimum to send it back to the service center.

| | | | | No idea what you did there. German MWSt on laptops is 19% (not 18%). A retail price of €900 includes €143.70 of MWSt -- i.e. the price is €756.30 before tax.

The end figure is not significantly different.

For those looking for a Keyboard/mouse combination for their Smart TV, Fust have an awesome deal on the very good Logitech K400 Plus https://www.fust.ch/de/p/pc-tablet-h...Q&gclsrc=aw.ds
Not only is it 33% off of the standard 59.90chf price, but then they are having another promotion today which reduced the price by a further 5chf to 35chf! Digitec is 50chf.
Absolute bargain, and will completely change your Smart TV experience. Plus the batteries last for around 18 months!
I bought from the Jelmoli Fust store, but check the website for store availability close to you. |

From the not-everywhere-is-Zürich department: a decent-sized 4.5-room (i.e. 3-bedroom) apartment with views from the southwest-facing balcony... for 790/mo.
(Spotted on my FB feed this morning; I don't know either the landlord or the outgoing tenant.)
Similar places in Zürich are usually around the 3k/mo mark. So what could you do with an extra 26,000 CHF a year? Well, you could buy a first-class GA for a start. It's a 3-minute walk to the train station, and 1:32 from there to Zürich HB - so an extremely long commute by Swiss standards, even if only somewhat above average by London ones.
Of course, if you work somewhere down this side of the lake (Wädenswil, Pfäffikon, Lachen), or if your job is one that would lend itself to working on the train...
On the plus side, that train station 3 minutes' walk away? It's also the foot of the cog railway to Braunwald. Hello hiking and skiing!

Commuting more than about 30 minutes is a concept alien to most Swiss people and expats tend to want more lively places to live so there are bargains to be had. OMG I sound like Odile | The following 5 users would like to thank Belgianmum for this useful post: | |
