Officeworld.ch have a fantastic deal on a 13.3" laptop, the Lenovo 710S, for 849chf http://www.officeworld.ch/shop/artik...BwE&sprache=de

I took a look at one yesterday and it is as good as the many review say. http://www.trustedreviews.com/review...pad-710s-13isk

Big plus points:
  • Amazing 1080p IPS screen, super clear and bright with great colour reproduction and viewing angles. Perfect for media and photos.
  • Incredibly light and thin aluminium case with no flex, it is light and solid
  • Speakers are excellent for such a small aptop, you can crank them right up with no distortion.
  • CPU is the top of the line Intel i7 i7500u, its basically the most powerful Ultra Low Voltage CPU there is.
  • Keyboard is good and well-spaced as with all Lenovo mchines.

It has 8GB of (non upgradeable) RAM which is enough for pretty much anything you will be doing on this machine, and a 256GB SSD is also adequate for a laptop which will likely be used as a secondary travel media PC or around the house.

There is nothing else that can touch it in the price range, not without spending around 30-50% more.
Ok guys I have now been using this for a full day and night and I have to say it is absolutely fricken awesome. It is super thin and light, handles any media or productivity tasks I have so far thrown at it, and is easily powerful enough for non-hardcore photo editing/processing while on travels. Combined with my Synology DS916+ NAS I finally have a true travel solution where the world (provided I have a decent internet connection) is my oyster. The 1080p IPS screen, JBL speakers and generously sized keyboard are all easily among the best-in-class. The battery life, while unspectacular, is still a category average at around 6-7 hours browsing.

If you are looking for an incredibly small and light machine for around the house/city and/or taking on trips then I highly recommend you grab one of these before they sell out... it's a bargain.

-CPU is overkill for most people, and there's out there the core i5 version, a bit cheaper (I dont think its worth downgrading though due to price difference of hardly 50-80chf).

-It's a Lenovo. I have seen 2 "yoga 2 pro", they have serious issues with GPU or soldering. The battery which was lasting several hours first months quickly reduce to around 2 hours in a year (yes, it depends on usage, etc... even in low usage it does discharge quickly). Their software support almost ended about a year after release. Problem is their realtek drivers crashed on daily basis, so it was not even stable for that. And there was a fix since getting drivers from realtek resolved. It had colometry issues for about a year until they finally "reacted" (yellow appeared mustard color).

As a professional, i'm not impressed, especially since it was their top of the range model.

Well, for the price it seems decent, yet I would not expect the deal of the century- just saying. Seems ok it terms of specs, which is not commenting on actual hardware or on software (drivers, etc...) side.

Having said that, combining a medium price machine like that with a SAN/NAS, is surely the best combination nowadays!

Always get the most powerful CPU you can afford... always. At this price a 7500u is a no-brainer.

Lenovo is used by the a significant proportion of multinational companies worldwide. If they weren't good or reliable as a whole they wouldn't be the choice of so many, and your one bad experience (which you can have with any company, ever) doesn't change that. I used and built them for years as corporate IT support and the fault/return rate was very low. I still use them now in my next big multinational company. They are a respectable and reliable brand.

Can you see if you can find anything that compares to this spec and build quality in this price range? I would be interested to see if you can find a better deal... I certainly couldn't.

Let's specify, I have numerous experiences with numerous brands (Asus, Acer, Lenovo, Dell, etc...).
While Lenovo are not the worst, I still have my concerns, based on facts and observations, and not only on one experience.
As you said it depends on the model also, sometimes they just release a particularly bad model, and provide crap support behind, so it's more "visible".

Say, if the price was around the same, I'd definitely choose a dell xps instead. True, it's more expensive, so let's not compare oranges with apples.

I'm just moderating your deal, that's all. As I said it's decent, which is a compliment, with moderation on the expectations.

sony were ahead with designs many years ago but kept things too high end. if only they made it more mainstream, they could have been the apple of laptops...

I had a great Sony Vaio notebook, too. When Sony pulled out of PC manufacturing, I bought an aluminium Samsung 9 which turned out to be remarkably capable and beautifully made (somewhat contrary to my Galaxy/Note-shaped expectations)—very Mac Air-ish. Now that Samsung have followed Sony in exiting the notebook arena, options have really dwindled.

Let's hope that the few decent remaining notebook manufacturers stick to it and don't get seduced by selling tablets! I for one don't find them a reasonable, comparable replacement for a powerful, light, fast notebook with a real, integrated keyboard.

That's a reasonable looking deal in terms of specs, even if the chassis looks a bit thick. My only concern is that judging from previous models, the screen looks to be of extremely poor quality.

Re: The "I found a deal/bargain" thread...

I bought one a month ago. Depending on if you are really fussy about a screen then you might find a fault with it. I'm not and I'm really pleased with the purchase.

Re: The "I found a deal/bargain" thread...

Speaking of laptops... Media Markt appear to have a decent deal on a last-gen gaming laptop, the Acer Aspire V Nitro 7-592G-77GJ. https://shop.mediamarkt.ch/de/comput...z/idpgfqxn8p32

Specs are pretty high:
  • Intel i7 6700HQ (plenty of quad core CPU power for 90% of uses)
  • 16GB RAM (enough for the forseeable future)
  • 512 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD (loads of storage with the 512GB SSD being a real bonus)
  • IPS screen - 1080p resolution (wide viewing angles and good colour reproduction)
  • Nvidia 960m 4GB DDR5 (the fast verison of this GPU, equivalent to a modern GTX1030) https://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA....138006.0.html

Reviews are good: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Acer-A....154364.0.html

Seems like a decent deal for a mid-size, semi-portable desktop replacement laptop with some gaming grunt.

Omtatsat would write that the speaker cost 150 chf in Switzerland while you could have it for 97 CHF, which is of course a total rip off.
