Re: The "I found a deal/bargain" thread...

Migros has 50% off on Kuhn Rikon pressure cookers. If you wait you can find them second hand on ricardo.ch for sometimes 25% original price.

plusses:
kuhn rikon : super safe, never had a blow up or blow out.

saves time and money, 70% less cook time

preserves nutrients (when you don't throw water away) hip pressure cooking link on vitamin retention by different cooking methods

saves on water use (you only need a little to produce enough steam to bring to pressure)

saves cleanup burnt food and boiling over, its so quick so instead of getting bored cooking and forget you have something on the stove and burn or boil over and have extra cleaning

cooking is so quick, you hardly have time to clean up as you go along.

look away italians and pasta purists, even works al dente for robust pasta

made in switzerland (I think still)

I have the 2.5L which is perfect for three or four servings, for a single person you can cook extra and take it to work the next day.

they are great for making dog food (root veg, oatmeal, rice, beans, cheap meats based)

migros kuhn rikon 5L example 73 chf

amazon kuhn rikon 5L similar but more expensive model generally example 119 eur

Manor Food: Waitrose Belgian Chocolate chunk all butter cookies in triple chocolate and white chocolate flavour are on half price (2.50 instead of 5Fr.)
I devoured the white chocolate pack, and considering all Waitrose stuff in Manor costs 5Fr. and above, this is a bargain :-)

Denner is again running its 20% off most wines promotion this Friday and Saturday. Some exclusions apply, including sparkling wines and Bordeaux. However it is good on top of current sales, so often there are some nice bargains.

oh i hope you will be pleased with them, i remember the first time i used one, i was really scared, every little hiss made me jump the first time, but since then i've become more confident using them and would like another 2.5L.

if you havnt used one before,

- calculating cooking timings, rule of thumb is just cook what you are cooking in a third of the usual time, if you want a good chart, here is a link.
Canadian fast cooking site
i've been thinking of making one big sheet printing it out and putting it on the cupboard.

- test to see the minimum water you need to create enough steam to bring it to pressure, i think for the 2.5l its a third a cup, but just test it and see, then just put this much water in with veg you cook, its worked for the sort of portions i cook.

happy cooking i cook a few soups a week (i have a bamix stab mixer to blend it in the pan, hardly any washing up!) especially if you eat it out of the pot

There is no link, the info just pops up on top when you navigate through the website (groupon.ch) and you will also see the discount when you proceed to checkout.
I only know about it because I received an Email stating:

Then simply link to the Groupon site?

The point is just to make it as easy as possible for people to see the deal you are posting.

I just bought an 8 person raclette machine for 49.80CHF at Migros.--- the make is Mio Star and they're all 50% off right now.

Sale runs for about another week or so as long as supplies last. Friends of ours have the exact same model-- works well!

Re: The "I found a deal/bargain" thread...

Migros has a 50% off on their top line food storage containers.

i bought this one for the kitchen / compost waste
+ 3L,
+ handle so easy to carry
+ very. tight fitting lid so less smells and no leaks on the way to the recycling centre, (as long as i don't do cartwheels along the way)
+ smaller footprint than my other one, so good for a small kitchen,
+ now same price as the green trad one
+ can be used for food if you want
+ blends in easier in the kitchen rather than the green one.

apart from books i also like musical instruments, here are 2 sets of steel drums for free on fleedoo, mind you you'll have to go to the berne area to pick them up.

plus one of those double baby/kid prams also for free.

i only looked because i have 2 old dogs who might need pushing around, but i am holding out for a bike an hanger.

For all the gluten intolerant folks: barilla gluten free pasta from 4. June 2.75 instead of 3.30 in ottos.

Ps: I loooove ottos, you can find incredible deals upon walking in there, I previously found 50Rp. Thai red/green curry paste (made in Thailand!), 50Rp. barilla spaghetti 500 gr., 2Fr. kuhn Rikon kitchen knives (retails for 14Fr.), 1.50Fr. mlesna black tea from Sri Lanka I have previously never seen being sold in Europe, plus lots of foreign products other shops would never have or never at that price (I have seen Turkish, Chinese, brazilian, thai, Indian, Italian, eastern European, American products)
You just need a bit of luck and a bit of motivation to search around the usually messy shop.....
And I swear they sell a 10 kg Nutella!
