Re: The "I found a deal/bargain" thread...

For those looking for a swanky new compact laptop, Media Markt have a very good deal on the brand new HP Spectre X360 2-in-1 with very good specifications and it even includes a stylus pen to write on the screen which I tried and can confirm it works brilliantly.

1549chf @ Media Markt https://www.mediamarkt.ch/de/product...FSikUQodmo8CzA

Reviews https://www.google.ch/search?q=hp+sp...hrome&ie=UTF-8

------------

Pro's:
  • Very high specification with i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, touchscreen, fingerprint scanner and MicroSD card reader
  • Very light and thin
  • Very good build quality and keyboard
  • The stylus pen feels almost like using a normal pen, it is incredibly smooth and responsive
  • Great speakers
  • Folds back into a tablet

Con's:
  • Screen is glossy and reflective and overall not as bright as matte non-touch screens
  • Screen hinges don't seem super stiff

------------

The closest I can find costs 1'858chf at Microspot and instead has a 1TB SSD drive which isn't generally needed on a machine like this, and it has a MicroSD card reader to add more storage anyway.

I think it would be a great home media, work and travel notebook and the only thing that puts me off is the glossy screen (although this is standard for touchscreens) and lack of full size SD card reader.

Re: The "I found a deal/bargain" thread...

I was hoping that the last gen (i.e. 2017 - last week) MacBook Pro models might have taken a price dive, given that the updated lineup was released. That doesn't seem to have materialised, but if anyone spots any discount 15 inch models, would be happy to hear about it.

I don't know if you are looking for a 15" intentionally (you want a big screen?) but actually, with the new models, the "base" quad core 13" is faster (on benchmarks) than the high last-year spec 15"... So if you do it only for the quad core and the spec, consider the new 13"..

Older 2017 Macbooks had a Kaby Lake CPU not an i5-8250u right? I thought the 2018 generation was the first with 8th gen Intel CPU?

I've never really been into benchmarking too much, so not too au fait with all the terminology, but the helpful bar graphs seem to show the new machine is quicker with single CPU (154 vs 145 pts) and multi CPU (608 vs 363) so what am I missing here?

Was looking for the bigger screen - have friends at work with both models and both say that if you have the space / ability to carry around easily, then the 15 inch screen is the way to go to fully appreciate the quality.

On a related note:

iPad for 299:

https://www.mediamarkt.ch/de/product...i-1836934.html

It's not the Pro model, but is has Apple Pencil support.
Which means it's the "latest" version.

https://www.apple.com/chde/ipad-9.7/specs/

New iPad Pro models will be released in a couple of months.

Nothing special. Every month they have this offer. It was even 19.95.- during xmas.
Sorry for the late reply, but are you sure you’ve seen it for 19.95 as this seems too good of a deal to be true?

Anyone else seen this deal?

Yes, and it is about "Smart Swiss". I rather prefer "Plus Swiss" and you get additionally:
- Calls: 60 min to the EU & USA
- Roaming in the EU & USA: 200 MB/month surf

This one I didn't see below 29chf.

Lol. Those Pavilions have been on 'Aktion' forever, mine is about a year and a half old now but still rocks along sweetly. Also have a an Elite x2 for travel. Touchscreen, pen etc. Both together cost less than the Spectre 360.
