The colour is actually a coating to seal the shells and prevent deterioration of the egg |

| | Re: The "I found a deal/bargain" thread... | Quote: | | | | | This is not true, keeping them in the fridge is perfectly fine and indeed recommended by egg producers (people, not the hens), they have conducted studies on it. All they need for proper storage is a consistent cool temperature with no fluctuations and nowhere is better suited to that than the fridge. My eggs are always in the fridge within their carton and stay fresh for ages. | | | | | I thought the difference was US vs EU... in the USA, where animal welfare standards are much lower, many eggs have contaminated shells during production. As such, during the production process they are washed with sterilising agents, which removes the protective coating, hence the need for refrigeration (and some US studies advocating throwing away eggs after2 hours outside).
In the EU, you can store outside for up to four weeks, but deterioration is slowed down if stored under 7.2c.
In either case, eggs should not be stored in the fridge door - every time you open the fridge the temperature fluctuates...

And yes I agree about the door, but it's still better than in a cupboard during Spring and Summer months. I keep mine on the top fridge shelf at the back.

Whilst i can understand the logic about not keeping eggs in the fridge door due to temperature fluctations, i don't keep so many eggs anyway and they get eaten up on a regular basis or used for baking.
Any case, as the egg rack is located in the door, this is where 99% of people store eggs, and until fridge manufacturers change this, this is where 99% of eggs will be stored for the forseeable future i guess

The eggs are kept in the boxes on the kitchen counter-top.
Agree with Tom not to put them in the fridge, you should avoid temperature fluctuations (room temperature -> fridge). Most likely when you buy the eggs they are not refrigerated.
You can also prolong the shelf life by rotating the eggs e.g. using an egg spiral: https://picclick.co.uk/Helter-Skelte...840489349.html | This user would like to thank Phil_MCR for this useful post: | |

Like Today_only though, we only normally buy 6 or 10 or whatever each week and use them up within a few days. We put them in the fridge because they just take up space on the counter otherwise.
I thought you were supposed to keep eggs in a 2CV anyway... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQTgwJ6pLHE |

I'm not so sure the brand is that important if we're talking about door mounted egg racks.......

They are good although they do share a lot of internal parts with some Siemens models so it's worth looking at those as well.
And, for TodayOnly's benefit - they do sell an egg holder as an optional extra to cater for people who think you should keep eggs in the fridge.

To the million dollar question: should you store your eggs in the fridge or keep them in the cupboard? For optimum quality and safety, you want to make sure your eggs are kept at a steady temperature below 20’C, so try to avoid moving them too often between very cold and very warm temperatures such as between a hot car and fridge, or fridge and hot kitchen.
If you have a cool pantry that doesn’t heat up when the kitchen temperature rises, that’s fine for storing eggs but whilst a regular kitchen cupboard may seem a relatively constant environment, temperatures can still fluctuate when you're cooking things that produce a lot of heat or steam. Best practice is to store eggs in the fridge; that way the temperature is always at a constant and your eggs will be fresher! When you do get around to using them, try to leave the eggs out of the fridge for around 30 minutes to bring them up to room temperature, otherwise cooking times could change depending on how you’re using them. | | | | | UK egg website https://www.eggrecipes.co.uk/ways-to...how-store-eggs
Please note that I am not saying it's not good to not store it in the fridge if you have the environment to do so, but to say you SHOULDN'T store it in the fridge is ridiculous!

They're not at fridge temperature when they are up a chicken's bottom.
Just saying...
