Article covering it here: "Netflix cuts 4K bitrate in half, promises same quality 4K video" https://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.ph...&id=1602743673

I have been watching Outlander in 4k and the quality still looks good.
I have noticed things to be softer & less good gradient. The difference between the original DCP & what's seen at home is staggering.

Streaming comes with inherent limitations, such as optimising things for millions of people's crappy internet connections. Plus, the bandwidth Netflix must consume from their dataenters, especially with the pandemic-driven rise in consumers, must be staggering.

Still, it does a decent job for me at 1.5-2m distance on my OLED. Actaually, another benefit of OLED vs LED is that it does a better job of handling high ISO noise too, giving it a more film grain quality as opposed to pixellated blobs.

i guess halving cost makes good business sense, particularly if there's not much of a quality hit. in my experience, most people are not very discerning when it comes to picture quality.

Just got me a fantastic ham sandwich at Migros and only paid 3.45 instead of the usual 7 SFr.. Really pays to go late to lunch.

I have an equalivent model 2018 and its brilliant. Read lots of reviews and the LG OLED was superior to most!

LG OLED65B9S 65" OLED for 999.-

Media Market have a 10% discount today on some products

Just managed to buy an Apple MacBook Air M1 (basic model) for 854.10 CHF

To me that is cheap as chips

My Apple MacBook Pro from 2013 I think is about to give up the ghost or explode

Digitec deal of the day is one of the best made and subjectively best looking PC cases around - the Lian Li PC011DW.

The black version was already 159chf, only the white-accented version was 175chf. https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product...-cases-8393857

It's a damn sweet case though!

Not a deal per se but it might be of interest to some of you based on your personal situation.

EasyJet has changed their flight change rules where you can now make changes up to 2 hours before a flight at no cost.

Here is the text of the email I received. The Italics are mine.

"Book now with even more confidence

We want you to book with as much confidence as possible. That’s why we’ve updated our Freedom to Change policy for this summer, so you can now change your booking anytime up to 2 hours before your flight, fee free.

We all deserve an incredible summer this year. A chance to unwind, catch up with loved ones or simply indulge and enjoy some well-earned ‘me-time’ somewhere spectacular.

So, treat yourself to a break away you’ll never forget, with even more confidence.

Book now"

Re: The "I found a deal/bargain" thread...

I got a nice little mistake in my favour from COOP recently ..

I was ordering a big garden item that cost 849chf. When I reached checkout page on the website I noticed it was 150chf for delivery..
Or free delivery if spent 1000chf

So I kinda needed a new lawnmower too so I added one of them to my basket @ 199chf .. And went back to the checkout ..

It charged me 849chf total and free delivery. Both items were duly delivered .
I was half expecting an invoice with the lawnmower but no, the delivery note said "Paid by credit card"

Free lawnmower and free delivery was definitely a bargain..

Had it been the other way around it would have been fraud, trickery, I'll never buy from those bastards again.

Funny days, when customers at a check out said things like "excuse me, I think you gave me too much change".

I really can't bring myself to feel guilty about it.. It's probably just their markup on what i bought.

Had it been the little local store / artisan yeah.. But the amount i spend at coop, a couple of hundred chfs is a drop in the drop in the ocean to them blah blah ..
Who knows, TIS, the bill might still come. But for now I can feel like i won a lawnmower.
