ALDI English muffins aren't too bad - but their fresh bread isn't that great.

.
I think it depends on the store, the fresh bread at our local Aldi which has its own bakery bit is far far superior to any bread they sell at the Aldi in Neuchâtel which doesn't have a bakery.
The fruit and veg in both of them is excellent.

The one we use has the bakery bit - not impressed with it.

Might try Lidl this week for a bit of variety!

I wasn't impressed with the bread in the Lidl near us but their croissants and pastries are really nice.

I like the 'nutty' wholegrain bread from our Aldi.

Dyson V6 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner, 269chf reduced from 399chf... can't see it (or another model) cheaper anywhere else! http://www.melectronics.ch/p/de/Dyso..._source=641376

Will pick one up as I am looking for a cordless jobbie to supplement my Roombas..

Re: The "I found a deal/bargain" thread...

UBS runs a "mountain offer" for account owners through October 30, 2016:

10 CHF gets you a return ticket for any of 35 different cablecars/mountain railways across Switzerland. Valid for owners of UBS credit or debit cards or saving accounts. It also gets you 10% discount on your train to the cablecars.

Any UBS client can also take up to 4 minors up to age 16 for the same discounts.
Registration is mandatory for going up Pilatus.

See here for further details: https://www.ubs.com/microsites/entde...formation.html

Savings: The regular day ticket from e.g. Goldau up to Rigi costs 68 CHF (34 CHF with HalfTax).

Enjoy

For the UBS mountain deal, you can also get 10% off the SBB price from your home to the appropriate valley station. Tested Stettbach to Pizsol yesterday!

if you don't manage it before, the official swim day is as good a time as any.

Re: The "I found a deal/bargain" thread...

This Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro @ 897chf laptop looks like a pretty damn good deal to me... https://shop.mediamarkt.ch/de/comput...r/idpl96pyjvs6

It has:
  • A massive 512GB SSD (double the average in this class and price range)
  • A QHD+ IPS touchscreen
  • 8GB RAM
  • Above average life

Sure, it's no Dell XPS 13 (which is almost double the price for the top spec anyway), and the Intel Core M-5Y71 processor won't win any speed awards compared to a "full fat" dual or quad core CPU in every test, but it matches them in some single-threaded tests and overall it's roughly equivalent to a ultra low voltage i7 CPU, which means it is certainly no slouch either. http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-C....129324.0.html

Here is the same one at Digitec.ch, refurbished... for 1'154.25chf https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product...3?ipsrId=54608

Same one at Digitec.ch with a 256GB SSD ... for 1'049chf https://www.digitec.ch/en/s1/product...904?tagIds=614

Professional reviews (reviewed at full release price):

I researched some user reviews too and I think it has some flaws... the GPU performance is very poor in Youtube and Chrome but this is fixed with a registry patch to fix the hardware acceleration. However many of the 1* reviews seem to be complaining about fixable things in general: https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Yoga-P...owViewpoints=1

The Media Markt one is actually potentially a good deal... I'm tempted to pick one up as an ultra-portable machine for travelling and processing photos with. Hmm, need to go and see one tomorrow...

better buy it on Amazon: https://www.amazon.de/Lenovo-Convert...ovo+yoga+3+pro
with German VAT deducted and Swiss added, it is even cheaper than 897 CHF.

I bought my Yoga 2 laptop also on Amazon for a price way below the Swiss market. Even though it is not the latest model, it is a really nice laptop.

1) It does not ship to Switzerland, meaning you have to make extra arrangements to get it.
2) The price saving as I can calculate is so insignificant as to make all of the extra hassle and lack of local store warranty not even remotely appealing.

Media Markt is imo by far the better and more sensible option for Swiss buyers.

also the eu plug is an absolute atrocity to deal with the adapter.

Forget about adapters. Lenovo power supplies come with a C5/C6 connector ("Mickey Mouse plug"). Just get a cable with a Swiss plug for a few Francs.
