Charlie Trotter Has Passed Away...

http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local...230680701.html

While some may morn the passing of a politician that created stability in some region of the world, I now salute a man that gave sustenance to the very wheat of many lives...

From the NY Times obit:
Quote:
Charlie Trotter, a chef whose flagship restaurant, Charlie Trotter’s, helped establish Chicago as a serious dining city, died on Tuesday. He was 54.

...

Mercurial, driven and temperamental, Mr. Trotter was largely self-taught. After pursuing a whirlwind education that took him to 40 restaurants in five years, by his count, he decided to set up on his own, determined to elevate American cooking and the style of service to the heights he had experienced at Frédy Girardet’s three-star establishment in Crissier, Switzerland, near Lausanne.

This Chicagoan will be raising a glass in Mr. Trotter's honor tonight.

You mean there's actually a Swiss connection?! This thread needs to move out of Off Topic, then ... even though "Daily Life" sounds a little, well, incongruous.

Since it is about a restaurant owner, how about "Entertainment & Dining"?

Re: Charlie Trotter Has Passed Away...

He embodied what the better of American Chefs are, less schooled more actual grit. The one's you see on tv in general don't spend much actual time cooking, their more like media puppets. And even ignoring that, American Chefs are by far more creative in the field of culinary arts because of the wide ethnic mixing that goes on in the USA, melding similarities, as opposed to strict by the book cooking you find more in Europe.

He was one of those from the ground up kind of Chefs and his passion will be missed.
