Bern for Burger King, Biel for Subway? And we have TWO McDonald's here! Madness. Next time we do an event, can someone from Biel come and bring me a 6" teryaki chicken? Surprise me with the salad and sauce, but no olives please. And extra cheese!

If you count the one at Marin there are actually three MacDonalds in Neuchatel.
I'm going to Biel tomorrow so maybe I'll stop at Starbucks for a coffee and Subway for a sandwich just to see what we're missing out on.( never had anything from subway before)

Oh yeah, I don't count Marin but I had forgotten about it. So jealous you get to eat Subway but sad for you that you've never tried it before!

Re: Subway CH expands

This is an old thread... but an interesting one for me.

I found a subway recently in "Landquart" and was very excited, for a moment. Unfortunately it has been Swiss'ed a bit too much I think. Staff were unfriendly and told me that I had no choice but to have my sandwich toasted in the oven, as the "chicken cannot be served cold". I begrudgingly agreed and then proceeded to eat my surprisingly very cold chicken in my toasty bun. #fail. But I will try them again, as I'm a big fan. Hopefully with some training they will sort it out.

Cheers

To be honest, not worth it. There are so many better options out there, usually the local "Markthalle" has their own home-made sandwiches which are about the same price as the ones in Subway but a lot better. I haven't stepped into a Subway in CH since my discoveries of other options (and back home it used to be some of my favorite fast food).

Re: Subway CH expands

For me, the ideal placement of a Subway is in the train stations. There are many times that I want something to eat during my trip and Subway fits that bill quite nicely. And yes, I know that many people will (rightfully so) say that local stores have great sandwiches. But I'm a picky eater, and I like to be able to be sure that there's no mayo or tomatoes or pickles on my food

Re: Subway CH expands

I cannot eat sandwiches from regular stores anymore - I'm simply fed-up with the taste and quality of Fleischkäse, Ham or Cheese. Mind you, it seems, that they lost the recipe to make ham with cheese sandwiches. Thus, unless you're talking about a real "panino" with fresh, thinly sliced "prosciutto", then Subway will do just fine. You have a variety of flavors to choose from and you can also get a combo, which amounts to the same price as having two regular, boring ham or cheese options with a drink.

Re: Subway CH expands

Yeah the sandwiches here can be pretty repetitive. Subway if done well would just add some variety. Pretty expensive though, in think 15.90 for a foot long. I couldn't recall what it was in pounds 12 months ago.. I think 6.65 or similar?

Bit harder to do prepare the sandwich when you're out and about and not at home though, unless you carry a knife and butter around everywhere with you?

Hah, that is exactly what I do at work. I've got bread, mayo, ham, cheese, pickles and tomatoes ready to go. We have a freezer too so I'm ready to go any day

Re: Subway CH expands

I walked into a Subway several weeks ago hoping to see the good quality Swiss meats behind glass case. But what I seen was overly processed slices of what Subway calls meat...looked absolutely disgusting! Chopped and pressed and who knows what 'chicken breast' it all just looked appalling! No thank you!!!

Re: Subway CH expands

considering the standard Migros or Coop offering of day-old pretzel bread slathered in 2 tons of butter with one slice of salami or ham, one slice of week-old hard boiled egg and one slice of limp pickle, it's hard to imagine Subway not making an absolute killing anywhere in Switzerland.

How did it compare to subway in other locations? The chicken teriyaki I had last week looked amazing, tasted amazing, proper chunks of tender chicken. Are you sure you're not just having a bit too much fun with slandering?

OMG, you're absolutely right, it was amazing! I think they actually threw and Asian in the sandwich.

Re: Subway CH expands

Overall, I think Subway in CH has done a decent job of staying true to the franchise while dealing with Swissness.

The one major issue they apparently had to compromise on, is the steak on a steak-and-cheese. The stuff here looks disgusing - some sort of brown processes chopped up cold cuts.

The standard steak-and-cheese from subway has nice strips of meat which look like steak geschnetzeltes.

I can see how the swiss meat costs have affected the franchise.
