Found ipad on train

Whoever was using the seat before me on the train today has left their ipad behind when rushing to get off

Any ideas how to reunite them with it. I can give it to lost property at the station but if the battery runs out, how will they be able to identify it belongs to them.

I could leave it on the train but what are the chances that they will find it again, or someone steal it.

As a fellow ipad user (albeit just the basic functions) I can imagine how annoying it would be to lose mine so would like to reunite the owner with their lost one. Just not sure of the best way to do this

Any ideas.

Give it to lost and found at the station. Dont leave it on the train.

If I lost mine, thats where I'd enquire.

....... and if they have 'Find My iPad' installed, it shouldnt be a problem to locate it at the lost and found bureau.

Re: Found ipad on train

Probably the best thing is to give it to the lost and found at the station. The person looking for it will most likely begin their search there.

Re: Found ipad on train

Take it to lost and found at HB. The system is great and reunites many people . If you describe which train and when you found it , this will help the true owner identify themselves .
The true owner can also bring a charger and the unlock code ( which I assume is on) to prove that it is theirs.

If they have added the app "find my " then they will even see where it is geographically.

If the person has any decency a small rewarder's fee will also come : BUT it will be small

You can call Apple and give them the serial number and if its registered, they'll let the owner know.

However, I'm guessing the screen is locked and you can't get into anything?

I hope I don't lose anything of value - although if I do, I hope it's found by you, or someone like you.

Cheers, HD

I'd be honestly wary to give it to lost and found bureau.

My friend was always losing his iPhones. Even when he was able to track it down to the Railway Station and could see where the phone was (in the lost and found bureau) on the App from his mac at home, they refused to look for it!

He thinks they keep them and sell them after a while for profit. or swiped it themselves. (Conspiracy Theories).

A few months ago, I found a brand spanking new (huge) phone on the train put it in my bag with the intention of hunting the owner down.

Shortly after pocketing it, I get a call from a panic-stricken young lady. And she asks "who is this?" and I replied "the owner of a swanky new phone?".

Then I asked where she was. 10 minutes later, we met up on the platform and the owner was soooo pleased to get her phone back.

Tight arse didn't offer a finders fee, but then again, being a gentlemen, I wouldn't have taken it anyway.

Thank you very much to Stp for your honesty.

Re: Found ipad on train

Bit mean to suggest that the lost property office would swipe it.

My husband managed to leave his mobile and all our passports at security in Madrid (left in the tray and stacked without emptying) and the lost property office liased with us, the police and the courier to get it back to us.

I am very grateful to lost property offices

Well they won't be able to do that anymore. If an iToy running iOS 7 has been connected to iCloud with "Find my phone" activated then a stolen or lost iToy cannot be reactivated, even after a complete DFU restore, without entering the user ID and password for the iCloud account. Basically it'll be a brick.

Apple won't even service iToys until "Find my phone" is deactivated.

I'm merely recalling the bad experience of a colleague, Caz.

I didn't suggest that they would swipe it. I explained that my colleague thought that was feasible.

On a computer/laptop, go to icloud.com from your browser and sign in with your Apple ID and password, then select the the 'Find my iPhone' icon, and it should locate it.
You can click on the device name (top middle) for further options.

OR

On another Apple device, there should be the 'Find My iPhone' app. installed, then you can enter your Apple ID and password on the 3rd party device to locate your iPad.
