Re: cloverfield movie

I hear ya!! I was wondering for over half an hour when the intro's going to be finished and the real movie can start... pfffff

Now I'm just waiting for the high-budget sequel, so I can have a good look at the "thing" that caused all the trouble... could have been a good and entertaining movie, alas....

Re: cloverfield movie

yeah the first 30-40 mins is of some people at a party which is spectacularly boring, then a monster came along and broke stuff and then the film ended. when i still waiting for it to start.

all this shot on annoying camcorder footage. (i will retract my review if it was real all along)

I hadn't heard about the film, but was warned by a friend with pretty much the same attitude as you.

Re: cloverfield movie

I'll go the other way and say I enjoyed it.
the first 30mins were amazingly dull, and made me feel like they had been put in to make the film long enough to justify its release.

Characterisation, emotional depth, intelligent storyline...all were pretty much missing but on the big screen I thought it worked really well, it was tight with (ignore first 30mins) a really good pacing, I thought it rocked along at a good pace, I certainly never got bored. - if they make a sequel though my review will be less good.
I liked it because it was new and not the same old tosh that normally gets dragged out at the cinema, I thought it was no better or worse than Transformers and was pretty much a similar experience.
On the cons it will never meet the high expectations that hovered around it, but it did pretty good job of at least being fresh.

Re: cloverfield movie

I haven't seen it and doubt if I will. Sounds too much like the Blair yawn project (the onlytime I've actually walked out of a cinema 20 minutes into the feature)

Re: cloverfield movie

Come in late and enjoy the rest of the movie I suggest. Or just fast-forward the first 30 minutes! The rest is quite fun, my girlfriend found it awul, me and friends liked the rest. Good suspence, lots of action and great Aliens. Not a romantic comedy but fun to watch!

7.5 is an alright rating in imdb!

Didn't throw up, but I had a sore head for a while afterwards. Terrible waste of time.

Re: cloverfield movie

Im with PlantHead on this one...

I saw it quite a while ago and, honestly, found it quite fine.

Its not the usual run-of-the-mill horror/alien/creature movie...but in its own way, it was quite gripping. Okay, the first party bit was too stretched out, but the rest of it was quite thrilling. Especially, the shot in the subway when the lights go out.

And IMHO, the whole feel of the movie was amped up the camcorder-esque visualization. We have too many big-budget creature movies...I found this one to be a fine offbeat movie.

Re: cloverfield movie

I didn't mind this film but then I did watch it on DVD, I wasn't interested enough to watch it at the cinema.
It wasn't the worst film i've watched but not the best either. It was just light entertainment with an interesting (maybe not new) idea. Don't let people make up your mind for you just watch it with an openmind and decide yourself

Re: cloverfield movie

I have not purchased the DVD but it is to be hoped that the boxes contain several paper bags and a warning notice written in large font for nausea-prone viewers. Anything less would be irresponsible.
