Konstanz or Lörrach for shopping

Hi guys I want to go tomorrow there and do bit of christmas shopping. Since I never been in neither of this two towns which one would you recommend? I will go with meinfernbus from Zürich and the price is the same for both of towns.

I am 25 years old girl and I will be buying clothes and shoes for me and my friends, make up and bit of groceries. I am type of h&m girl so I am not looking anything luxury. It would be good if their are some german stores which I do not have here in Zürich, so something else for cheap clothes and that is not H&m, Zara etc.

What do you recommend and why?
Also important to me is that town has lot of store close to each other because I will be by foot.

Thank you very much

Re: Konstanz or Lörrach for shopping

Konstanz has a much better shopping scene than Lörrach. Many stores, and malls together plus a hell of a lot closer to Zurich I'd think.

Re: Konstanz or Lörrach for shopping

I go to Lorrach as it's a 30 minute cycle ride from Basel. There's no other reason. Konstanz is much nicer.

Apparently not, I just checked, to Lörrach it's 83km, and to Konstanz 71km so basically the same.

Re: Konstanz or Lörrach for shopping

I recommend no to go on a saturday afternoon to Konstanz.
It will be packed,it is no fun at all , it is really annoying.
Better use the Monday/Tuesday evening .
But is is your decision, if you do not have other possibilities.

Re: Konstanz or Lörrach for shopping

Unfortunately I am working during the week so weekend is only time when I can take a whole day for shopping. I just booked ticket for Konstanz, I am there at 9 already so I hope it will not be too crowded...this is one thing which I really hate

I hope that sales have already begun

Thank you guys for helping me decide.

It's the same but smaller. Lörrach is ideal if you know what you want and where it is. You go and get it, done. But if you want a near-bigcity experience, Konstanz is slightly more of a thrill.

Nothing without photos

You see, Konstanz was the favourite shopping place of Granddad on my Mum's side, until the Nazis took over. He then arranged that his taylor, with the help of an aunt living in Zch-Enge, relocated to Zch-Enge, just in time. When Konstanz became nice again in the 1980ies and later, we restarted the tradition to some extent, with visits two or three or four times per year.

Mum in 1940 to 1943 or 44 had a shop in Ermatingen/TG and had to watch the bombardments of this nice city. She knew what bombardments were all about. She in 44/45 worked in textiles retail at Paradeplatz Zürich and when she was informed by her boss in the early afternoon of 1st April 44 that HER hometown had just been bombarded she knew what the matter was all about. Shock turned into anger, and in her private personal protest she in her room mounted a pic of Soviet Field Marshal Kliment Voroshilov ! She was reconciled somehow when Harry Truman arranged that Schaffhausen, including the house of her family, got repaired with USA money

I live near Constance and honestly, we're all (on both sides of the border) more than fed up with the shopping tourists from Zurich, St. Gallen and Aargau. I find it quite appalling what some of you guys do to save a buck. Zurich has a considerably bigger selection and frankly, I don't see why someone who can afford an X3 needs to drive 100km, stink up the countryside with his or her car, cause traffic jams and wait in line all day to save 15% on food and clothes. What's the matter with you people?

what on Earth are you talking about? Konstanz was never bombed during the war due to its closeness to Kreuzlingen. It is one of the few places were not a single bomb went down (*). And it was "nice" long before the 80s.
