Reviving this old thread, as I’m getting a delivery of stuff this afternoon to keep me going through any potential Corona Virus self-isolation period. So it’s all quite heavy staples stuff, and quite a large order.

I live on the 4th floor without lift. Delivery charge is CHF 20.-
I’m used to the 4 floors, but most visitors usually seem quite near to a heart attack on arrival.

Does anyone know if it is customary to give a professional delivery person a tip?
Or will they feel it is inappropriate?
I doubt they would find it inappropriate. Hopefully they would just feel appreciated.

Well, just arrived. And he sounded like he might have heart attack any minute after each flight of stairs. Even though he was using one of those mechanical stair things.

Gave him a note tip in exchange for my electronic signature, and he was gracefully pleased, not “beleidigt” at all.

Re: Tipping the coop delivery guys?

I wonder why there is a delivery charge of Fr. 20.00 as it is supposed to be free until March 1st. (minor scrolling necessary on this site to see offer).

edit: order needs to be Fr. 200.00. Is this a Corona-offer then?

Yes, I knew that it would be free on a delivery over CHF 200.-, as always.

I only ever order on-line at the Coop then. Usually don’t take advantage of it, as my monthly need of staples don’t exceed that, and I buy fresh veggies etc. daily.

In this case though it was worth it 😉.

Re: Tipping the coop delivery guys?

Ha I also live on 4th floor no lift as well. I’m confused as I did not expect them to carry it up the stairs for me- so I am ready to use a suitcase to carry it up the stairs myself!! Does it come in bags or boxes if SwissPost are delivering my coop order?

But I’m mostly confused because I have no idea how they will tell me when they’ve arrived because I don’t seem to have a doorbell for my apartment 😂

I live on the 3rd floor, no lift. I don’t tip, but I do run downstairs and help carry the shopping up (if they do not bring the lift).

I‘m sure that they love that now that many are ordering, or will order groceries on-line, due to the rest of us wanting to contain the spread of the virus within Switzerland.

Best to leave it at the door (4 floors up or not)

Do you not understand the German, French nor Italian speaking Swiss press? It‘s this kind of ignorance that is frightening.

You’re suggesting that the previous poster might be infected and thus should have no contact with the delivery folk? Uh-huh.

Well, post taken into consideration of all your groans and red reps (including yours) a few days ago about needing to contain the virus, as I have a clear head. I was ridiculed, and since then cannot be bothered to post, and due to bullying from you lot have absconded from EF.

The only thing that I care about is that you people take hygiene, transferring the virus, and solidarity to protect those most vulnerable seriously. As the rest of us. Which you clearly don‘t.

Re: Tipping the coop delivery guys?

I doubt Mrs WorWoo would be able to run anywhere if she was having respiratory symptoms. Moreover, I do hope Coop, Migros and everyone else is checking the health of their employees.

I believe people are taking this very seriously. But on the other hand, there is space for a little levity. This is a serious and scary situation. Sometimes it feels as though we are wading through paranoid muck. But, I see people being careful too.

And I don’t believe that helping a delivery man if you’re both low risk is irresponsible.

You might want to take a look at your rep again as I think you must be confusing me with somebody else. It is you who is dishing out the red rep lady not me.

You know absolutely nothing about me and are making a lot of assumptions all of which are wrong.

All things considered I think taking a break is probably a good idea.

I have not ordered home delivery since the end of January, but thanks for jumping to conclusions and berating me for no reason.

Really no problem. And I did notice your groan withdraw Blueangel.

I truly do not care about you, I only hoped for good and transparent communication of information within the English speaking community of Switzerland.

That is clearly a lost cause.
Give-up.

You have drawn that conclusion from one post about going downstairs to help the coop delivery guy? And that wasn’t even a recent event.

In the Sihl City COOP they advertise home delivery for as low as 9 CHF. Or is that delivery by bike?
