Tipping the coop delivery guys?

Hi, i've been wondering if I'm supposed to/expected to pay a tip to the coop@home delivery guys. And if yes, how many franks? They usually carry all the bags upstairs for me. I have to pay the delivery charge with my purchase, should i give a tip as well?

Thanks!

They have a trolly that climbs stairs, all very high tech!
Generally people don't tip in CH, he gets a good wage which is why things are expensive here.

Re: Tipping the coop delivery guys?

I know, I don't tip but they do 2 metres of carrying for me. But if you get loads and like it not broken and it's the same people all the time, give 'em something for Christmas....

Re: Tipping the coop delivery guys?

I use Migros Le Shop, who in turn use Le/Die Post ..... never thought about tipping the Post guy - althought I did once give a tip and told him not to forget to turn his lights on.

There are at least 5 of them that drive to my location. Lots of bags? Usually yes because they pack less stuff in many many bags but as a whole das 'einkauf' is quite heavy. 2nd floor. It's just that some of these guys grab all the bags at once and sprint upstairs like duracell rabbits. I always tell them how strong they are and if i pay in cash they can keep the change. Just wasn't sure if they actually expect getting a tip when i pay with the card.

Re: Tipping the coop delivery guys?

Our coop guys leave really quick after we sign for the goods.. I mean they don't stand there as if something else should happen or make a little uh hum type cough..
Maybe if they came in and put all the stuff I'd tip 'em but really, there's a lift, the guy brings the stuff up the lift and we jointly dump it in our hallway.

Like others said, i'm sure he's suitably well paid and the delivery charge is quite expensive.

OMG, are you all kidding? Give the poor guy 5 francs, 2 at least...

@Fatman, I really hope you're being ironic, Ebenezer.

Re: Tipping the coop delivery guys?

I've always said let's ban tipping. Ban it. It does not make any sense to tip a person whose income does not depend on the generosity of others.

Re: Tipping the coop delivery guys?

I use the service as well and I don't think they expect to receive anything, normally they bring the stuff when I'm not there, but if I'm there I always tip them depending on how heavy the stuff I ordered is. The way I see it, the fee they charge you also covers the person who will pack your groceries. I normally organize my shopping in a way that I buy every 2 weeks and if you buy every 2 weeks at least 200chf, you don't pay the delivery fee, so I tip the guy doing the heavy lifting instead.

Of course they get paid to do this job, but come on, they don't get that much.
I always give some tip. I think they expect it.

Re: Tipping the coop delivery guys?

I don´t think thay expect it, as in: standing áround making funny noises like doormen in New York City, but if we think that low end jobs here get compensated fairly , this is another Swiss fantasy. The reason they leave so fast is because they are trying to fullfill their quota of deliveries for that day.

If you are earning enough, give the guys something for a coffee, or a bigger sum for Christmas.

Re: Tipping the coop delivery guys?

I always tip those guys that deliver from Sihl City Coop. They deliver everything on bikes with massive delivery compartments come hail, rain or shine. The delivery charge (paid for at the info desk in Sihl City) is only CHF 5, so I normally give them another CHF 5 when they arrive at our place.

Always really cheerful and pleasant guys.

This thread's just reminded me to start that again, haven't used them for months.

Re: Tipping the coop delivery guys?

Reviving this old thread, as I’m getting a delivery of stuff this afternoon to keep me going through any potential Corona Virus self-isolation period. So it’s all quite heavy staples stuff, and quite a large order.

I live on the 4th floor without lift. Delivery charge is CHF 20.-
I’m used to the 4 floors, but most visitors usually seem quite near to a heart attack on arrival.

Does anyone know if it is customary to give a professional delivery person a tip?
Or will they feel it is inappropriate?

Re: Tipping the coop delivery guys?

It is not customary, however if they do a good job and save you some trouble sure why not, we all like some appreciation in our job.
