Only in Switzerland - lost & found record?

Lost my wife's wallet on the slopes at Hoch-Ybrig today (it flying out of a closed backpack can attest to the kind of skier I am), in puffy snow, declared it lost at the "kiosk".

Barely went up with the skilift and I get the call..."your wallet has been found".

Went down to get it. They give it to me no questions asked even though I had written in the description it was white while in fact it was brown!

Looked inside, everything's there, money included!

It also looked like it had been cleaned on the outside!!!

Love this country and the people inhabiting it

p.s.: if the person who found it is by some miracle reading this, please let me know and let me take you out for some beers (or other poison of your choice)

I lost my wallet in Zurich, went to the lost and found in the Fundburo...Everything was in it, cost me 5chf (I guess administration) but it is awesome.

This country is a AAA+++.

My wallet was stolen in Winterthur. A few weeks later, I got it back minus the small amount of cash in it. The thief even left me 10 rappen.

I've misplaced my keys 3 times, my wallet 2 times, my phone 3 times, my wife her purse twice, and each time, someone Swiss held it and returned it to us.

I have finally returned one of these favors. I found a fat Prada wallet stuffed with cash on the floor of a parking garage. I tracked down the owner's home number. When she came to pick it up, she offered some of the cash from the wallet, which I satisfyingly declined.

I'm quite happy to be living in this kind of society instead of another. Pay it forward, and Hopp Schwiiz!

Wow, that's impressive. Did you take special classes in being so careless, or did it just come naturally?

The exact thing happened with my wife's phone last year at Hoch-Ybrig.
The exact same response happened too. In fact, who ever found it sent SMS messages to the last three contacts to let those people know the phone was lost. I got the message second hand from friends! And all of that took place in about 10 minutes!

Re: Only in Switzerland - lost & found record?

Not just in Switzerland. My dad left the expensive binoculars I had lent him on a trip to Scotland (they were staying with us in the Midlands), on a bus near St Andrews. He was gutted and didn't dare say he'd lost them. The same day we got a call from someone in St Andrews who had found them... we had stuck our name and address and tel number inside the case. The funniest thing was that the guy was at Uni with my OH in London in the 60s and he had recognised the (very unusual and unique) name. He put them in the post the next morning.

When mum and dad returned, we picked them up at the station and I had the binocs around my neck- he just could not believe it and was so relieved.

I lost my phone there too, fell out of my pocket when I wiped out, thought it was gone forever. Got a call on our home phone from it a couple of days later, then a couple more days and it turned up in a box, with some biscuits, no note or anything, so no idea who to thank. all creidit still on it etc.
