Escalators that don't work are very confusing to the mind, should one step forward or stand still?

Filling Coop bags with firewood in the dark when it's cold outside is really... hang on, that isn't really a first world problem is it?

Never mind...

Re: The First World Problem Thread

On my work-issued Mac I'm sorely missing the MS Windows keyboard shortcuts Alt+underline for quick pull-down menu item access.

To my shock these underlined letters in menus have been hidden since Windows 7, but I didn't notice on my old computer where I configured the "Windows XP" look&feel.

I have no time to pack. I do have time to wrap xmas presents. Santa is a good multitasker.

Another lux problem is - I can get rid of most possessions that I don't immediately need. The joys and pains of chucking useless things.

Oh yes.

I've just come back from a long weekend with my Hungarian friends and spent an afternoon chopping wood on the farm in the middle of the swamps of Somogy. That wood is the house's only source of heat. You need to break the ice before you can make tea or even brush your teeth. I had a great time and wished I could do that sort of stuff every day. And the folks there all want to come and live in the west and have first world problems.

There's no pleasing everyone.

After visiting her grandparents, the Rufus Hound now turns her pink nose up at any proffered toast that hasn't first been cut into neat squares.

I'm RufusB and so is my wife.

Ok, LiB. Are you sitting down? I. Am. Female. Mr Rufus is male. The grandparents are my parents who don't always differentiate between their human grandchildren and their canine ones when it comes to toast.

You're welcome.

Edited to say that I feel I should also state that the Rufus Hound is a dog. Also female. Yellow lab. Spoiled rotten. Will do pretty much anything for a biscuit and a belly rub.

People who've never lived with facial hair probably can't understand this perfectly reasonable reaction.

Thanks for the clarification, however in the meantime another question arose. Now we've figured that you are RufusB and so is your wife and that your hubby is Rufus and that you're a woman whose parents have a weird relationship with the Rufus Hound who's a female dog...we got that. But wouldn't any toast, whether proffered or not come as neat squares already or is the proffering procedure in your homeland affecting the structural integrity of the aforementioned toast?

My homeland does not always just have the perfectly square small bits of bread you get in CH (unless of course it's an uncut loaf). The Rufus Hound likes her toast in quite small squares. It's a nuisance. She just used to take the whole slice.

I feel that this has rather lost its way.

Marmite, anyone?
