All I want to do is take the family to Ikea this weekend for lunch but unfortunately meat balls are off the menu.

Re: The First World Problem Thread

All these problems are trivial even by first world standards. I've been watching Fox news to get a fair and balanced {sic} view of what are the real FWPs. I am convinced that the number one problem facing the first world is in fact the obamacare website.

Also it's a bit cold in America and if you want to boil a kettle it'll suddenly turn into snow, which could be a problem also if you prefer weak wee coffee to snow. On the other hand apparently climate change is a RoW (rest of world) problem

Re: The First World Problem Thread

I've had my new phone since November and I still can't work out how to answer calls. There's a big green telephone button on the screen but when I press it, nothing happens. Why oh why oh why.

Try sliding the button whilst shaking the phone violently.

While whatting the phone? Shaking? Ok .. I'll try ...

But what is the point of the big green and big red phone appearing on the screen if you have to have some initiation into the telephonic masonic lodge before you can operate them?

(Luckily I didn't buy the phone so that people could ring me on it so the fact that I can't answer it is not as irritating as it may at first seem ... )

In my opinion you have so many open apps that the smartphone is struggling to perform its its primary (non-smart) duty and thus why its acting so laggy when you get a call. Try updating the firmware as a first step and then keep an eye on the task manager and amount Apps/RAM in use.

Alternatively get an iPhone

Oh I thought you were just ignoring me!

Seriously though it could be important if there was an emergency situation and somebody needed to get hold of you.

Oh it's like magic. First all swiping works. And secondly I had been wondering if I should close down apps, and you prompted me to find a little how to video on youtube so now I have no apps running and can answer the phonen..but then seeing as I bought it only to switch on and ring out on it, why oh why did I waste all this time on this problem?

(PS i like the fact that you blamed the phone for not answering. Very nice)

If you and the little one want to come over on Sunday I can have a look for you. I never had that problem with the phone and if it's persistent then it's still under warranty so I'd take it back!

Ohh no no. It's me. The phone is totally fine. Lovely in fact. It is entirely, absolutely me. I am useless.

And we'd have loved a trip over on Sunday (particularly little boy who keeps turning up the picture of him at your house and crooning over it) but annoyingly already going to Zurich to meet brother .... more reason to use the excellent smilie which seems strangely suited to this thread ...

Re: The First World Problem Thread

My damn fridge keeps beeping every time I leave the door wide open. It's obviously got nothing better to do than keep tabs on me and my door closing skills.

Clearly it's only doing it to annoy me. It must be Swiss.
