Re: The First World Problem Thread

I have to take extra care when I mow the lawn as the OH wants to keep the pretty weeds sorry flowers. Its hard work trying to push a petrol mower around individual flowers, now the lawn is covered in clumps of tall grass and dandilions.

Funny, I was thinking the same the other day. Passed by a house on my way up to the commune admin office and they have nice little clumps of flowers in their lawn. Great for the moment, but what do they do when they want to cut the grass?

You and I have different opera-going worries. I rough it with shorts and sandals and fret over which cushion is best for a comfortable and cool bum, and what food and drink I need to bring. Verona in a nutshell

I do the same in Verona!!! I love it, it's my favorite opera house to go to. Acoustics are excellent, and the atmosphere is just magic! I miss going regularly.

I would love to take my husband sometimes, he has seen the arena but it was not during opera season, I am sure he'd love it. Also, my mom and I *may* have sneaked in some booze in the past. Carmen with booze in Verona is a magnificent experience.

This one will be different, the performance is at the Met Opera in New York City and we have fancy seats, so we are dressing it up.

I can usually do opera through half a nostril at this time of year but oddly enough I can actually breathe for a change. I am not sure if it's the EF bored trailing spouses, menopausal or knit/crochet team that has had an effect but something appears to be working.

Re: The First World Problem Thread

Went to Macdonalds as it was right there in front of me, it was late and I hadn't been in months. I'd never really paid attention to the calorie information, I knew it was bad, but I'd never realised how bad it was. For a medium fries, a bacon burger and a mango frappuccino I consumed almost 1600 calories. That's more than I'm supposed to eat all day.

Can that be right?!

For 11.20 francs and I ate it in about 10 minutes... That's over 140 calories per franc and 160 calories per minute.

Now you know why so many Americans (and others of course) are obese. McD's should be an occasional treat not the "go to" place for lunch very day.

Even their ice tea is overloaded with calories: 70 cals for 250 mil, 110 for 400 mil and 135 for 500 mil. The light version I buy in Aldi is only 28 cals for 250 mil.

That sounds wonderfully efficient.

Thanks for the tip!

I am very analytical, lol.

Now I am even more depressed as figure it will take me over 3 hours of strenuous exercise to burn 1600 calories.

Never mind, I'll just be fat.

It was a treat: you'll be fine!

You can't gain any more weight than you actually ate, anyway - and how much of that was water?

A science teacher who lost 56 pounds in six months while eating nothing but McDonald's is the star of a new documentary, The Lunch Tray reports.

John Cisna weighed 280 pounds when he decided to go on the McDonald's-only diet.

After 90 days, he had lost 37 pounds, and at the end of the six months, he weighed 224 pounds.

Cisna limited his daily intake to 2,000 calories and exercised for 45 minutes five times a week.

Apparently being very experienced with a wide array of skills and excellent references is a barrier to re-entering the world of work.

You spend half your career building up experience, then the other half wishing you hadn't bothered as employers clearly prefer cheap and malleable 24 year olds.
