Was swimming in the Rhine this evening after foolishly drinking a beer on my over warm balcony.
Problem was too many little flying insects hovering in clouds over the river

Re: The First World Problem Thread

Today is not boiling hot, so I can open the windows without fear of dying.
A wasp flew in. I told her to leave, politely. She refused. I said, last warning. She ignored me.
Went to the kitchen to fetch the insect spray. Did the dead.
Now I don't know where her corpse is, to give it a proper burial.

Use an electric fly swat and she'll stick to the grille.

Might take some shaking to get her off it, but at least you'll know where she is.

One of my best investments over the last few years was a 75 Rappen fly swat.

We had that storm in Aargau, and from the comfort and safety of indoors looking out, it was impressive indeed.

Unfortunately a load a wasps thought that indoors looked safe, and took refuge. For the next few hours they were buzzing around the ceiling, mildly annoying me.

Wasp spray plus fly swat proved Miss Marple's point. I will no doubt be finding dead wasp bodies tucked in nooks and crannies for some time to come.

You know, you might be on to something here. Will give it a shot. Well, not literally, that would be a bit over the top...

You must not have worded your invitation properly, I never had problems inviting wasps and bees to leave. It's only the flies who have no sense of direction when politely asked to depart.

And I've been spending far too much time in McDonald's lately.

You need stone walls to keep the hot out and the cool in. And possibly a moat. I'd like a moat. With crocodiles. Maybe a dragon.

I'm having a Day.

Bees and wasps: like to obey especially if you speak the local language.
Flies: the ultimate insubordinates, remain unimpressed by any signs of integration.

Me too.

Today I woke up and found two little goblins in their pjs in the living room. It's now lunch time and they are still here.

Do you know what, I'm also having a day (a couple of days).
I couldn't stand the Hobbit when I was force-fed it at school, but excelled at Thomas Hardy etc.

Now, it's starting to sound like a Trump reality from your post - wish I'd have paid more attention during school...

Re: The First World Problem Thread

I'm writing school reports at home. But there's a fridge full of ginger beer. And a book of Patrick Leigh-Femor's letters. And the children probably need a cuddle. And there are maize chips to eat. I don't even like maize chips, but... And there's a kettle. It'll only take a few minutes to make a brew. And I need to nip upstairs to get some more milk. And...

I'm still going to be writing school reports next Tuesday at this rate...
