I saw some Math geeks feeding on mentos (mentoses?) the entire day today at the EPFL. I have no mentos!
Feeding on mentos? That's an interesting mentos image... err, I mean, mental... I mean, never mind...

In any case, surely the postgrad stipends would allow them to eat slightly better than that... (this comment from someone in a country where articles are abounding about our undergraduate university students who are living consistently below the poverty line)

---

Oh yeah, my FWP...

Been told by three bosses to take a holiday... but I can't stop working...

Ok...wait: "Take a holiday!"

Is it working?

It is so hot that I think my head will cook soon. If I take hols (discounting singing in the Royal Albert Hall again), I will have to work through. We can pact!

I was told to take a holiday .... by my RAV advisor! I'm on it now, I think.

Not so much a FWP as very localised to this country, I suspect.

Re: The First World Problem Thread

If you angle the shower head properly you don't need one. Sloping ceiling over our bath so always shower without a curtain. Going to have one after dinner and cool down for a while!

Sorry, forgot you (I) are from the U.K., where the scientific concept of a shower was introduced quite late in my teens.

But hopefully this helps:

I gather that the UK equivalent will allow holidays, and even organise a payout at your holiday destination (if in the UK).

A long time ago now, but at our first meeting after a holiday, my RAV advisor was genuinely surprised that I had applied for a couple of jobs while I was on holiday.

It was an interesting insight into Civil Service mentality for me, though when I thought about it, it was very similar to my own parents' mentality, and they had both had careers in Local Authorities.

Re: The First World Problem Thread

The farmer from next door just brought me a kilo of fresh picked cherries.

If I freeze half, then that half won't be fresh.

If I wash them then all I will eat them all.

Can cherries be frozen with the stones?
I bought a bit too many but if I have to take the stones out I can't be bothered, I'll just indulge.

The half I was going to freeze is already gone. I'm just starting the half I intended to eat.

Years ago i thought i discovered a culinary solution for wraps: i spread leftover mashed potatoes on the wrap to act a glue to hold veg and whatnot in place. Made some for the visiting relatives. They played with it a bit, said it was crap and walked off to a local Chinese takeaway...
