Slow cooking EF potluck? Yeah? Yum. I have eye-balled them for ever and still haven't decided if it is worth the investment. I love slow cooked anything. Well, almost.

Re: The First World Problem Thread

My "today I won't do anything practical/productive/demanding-day" left me more tired than any work day, uncomfortable from all the junk-food (instead of being productive and cooking) and restless.

Sod that. I'll probably be speedy all night.

Go on, you know you want to...

There is nothing I love so much as a hearty homemade soup - but I don't have hours on end to watch the stove as I make broth and then again as I let the soup simmer. The slow cooker is worth every penny* for that alone.

And then you can get creative... I'm stewing down fruit to later be used in syrups, preserves, and sauces as I type this.

* Well, maybe the eye-watering Solis (CH) price would be pushing it. But you can get a lovely Crock Pot Original from Amazon DE for a fraction of that.

Re: The First World Problem Thread

All this Chicago talk is making me want to book an impromptu trip to Chicago!

Funny enough, I have two guests this weekend, one of whom is flying in from Chicago.

Second FWP - I have guests for the weekend arriving on Friday afternoon, I haven't planned anything and my fridge is empty because I have not been home yet since last week. I have an apero tonight, all morning work tomorrow, pretending to play golf all afternoon (I am not that good), dinner in the evening, and probably will be exhausted afterwards.

Added bonus: one of my guests is Vegan, the other is Paleo. It's gonna be fun. Middle of the night trip to the grocery store tomorrow night?

My mom: that's why you have a husband.

Me: nope, he is not home either until next week. Third FWP: husbands are never around when you need them the most.

When a Brit reminds you of all the flavours of crisps readily at their disposal, and your mind wanders into cravings for salt & pepper chips with curry sauce and Hollands cheese & onion pies with lashings of vinegar.

Let's do a list (and I'm talking about around 1990) - can only have got better since then:

Fish and chips (let's admit it)
Curry with chips
Cornish Pastie
The best Chinese you've ever encountered outside of China (especially if you've never been there)

Self Edit - am in denial.
Is there a local Anonymous group for these things?

Re: The First World Problem Thread

Well the great state of Michigan has long topped my list of retirement possibilities... until today.

This HuffPo - bastion of journalistic excellence that it is(n't) - article shows a map of the 'most hated thing' in each US state.

So what do Michiganders hate most?

Pride and Prejudice.

FWP: It is a truth universally acknowleged that a retiree in possession of little fortune and a life long love of Miss Austen must be in want of communion with like minded spirits...

FWP 2: Forgot to link the map:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/...ushpmg00000009

FWP 3: Our powers of recollecting and of forgetting do seem peculiarly past finding out.
