Having a new central heating boiler installed in a couple of weeks. Man came today to put the cleaning fluid through the old one and now we have to have the central heating on for the next couple of weeks so it can circulate. And outside temps are predicted to hit 29-30!

The shower gel on offer at Migros came in bags rather than bottles and so I have to do the menial task of filling in the shower bottle myself... What are we, slaves now?

No, it's called self-service.

I should have included the smilie I guess?

Although I must admit I can't really see why what is still a pretty consistent plastic bag, with plastic cap and all that is in any way cheaper/better/more practical than the plastic bottle itself... other than make us work more and feel like we're doing something

I overheard somebody saying that they buy shower gel from Migros. I immediately felt bad that there are people out there who still have to rough it in Switzerland.

It's marketing.

It's supposed to give you a warm fuzzy feeling that you are doing something for the planet by recycling the original bottles.

What happens in practice is that you need to buy one of the original bottles as well to give you something to use the refills on.

And then the bottle starts to look tatty, or the cleaner throws it out, and you have to start again.

Eventually you throw the lot in the bin and start again with a different product.

Marketing result! You have bought more than you needed.

Once upon a time one bought perfume-free, antiallergic etc. etc. shower gel at the pharmacie. Now every peasant can get it at Migros. Makes me feel so common.

One doesn't. I have a soap spender on my shower wall

It's actually worse than that. The plastic bottle I can recycle at the shop and it's the shop's problem. The plastic bag I have to throw in my bin for which I pay so it's my problem. Not to mention that it thus gets burned creating far more toxic pollution to deal with. But it's not the shop's problem anymore....

Sorry, this thread somehow got a bit too serious now... back to the original program!

Actually it is plastic and has a screw-on-top. And you don't even need to press the air out. So you should throw it in where you would throw the bottle. (I'm gonna start doing that, now that I thought of it).

I think this should work. And if not you cause them a first world problem

At lunch two of my follicly challenged colleagues were discussing REGAINE®, but I felt I had nothing to contribute, what with my full head of hair.

Nah. Wait till they start talking about baldness again and ask "Does it keep your head cooler in hot weather? I've been thinking about shaving my head."
