Re: The First World Problem Thread

My neighbour, who is even older than I am and refuses to use anything in the electronics line, came down to our flat nursing a lap-top in her arms. It belongs to her husband but he is away. While her grandchildren were here on holiday they had had permission to use it but they had gone home and left it running. She wanted to put it away "without any lamps burning". She hadn't the faintest idea how to switch it off.

P.S. Nor had I! First it wanted the password and the commands were in English whereas my computer speaks German. Most confusing. Mr. Longbyt to the rescue again.

Having a drink with a friend and chatting about the movie 'Candyman', and I've just noticed the wall mirror behind her. And I don't know how many times I said it?!

Re: The First World Problem Thread

So my jamming operation is in full swing, a cauldron of peaches simmering away. I reach for the bottle of Framboise to give the brew a little extra je ne sais quoi, when I remember that I had used the last of it a week ago.

Run to the store... no Framboise! Quelle horreur!

So, what could I use as a substitute? I never drink liqueurs, only cook with them, don't really know my way around the spirits aisle. Here's a bottle of something red, cherry like, hmmm... that might work well with peaches.

I'm usually a pour first, ask questions later kind of cook, but something told me to taste this ersatz red stuff first...

Holy Hemlock, Batman!

Bündner Röteli.

Looks like this will be a batch of 'innocent' jam...

I am in Austria at least once a month.

If you use the rented car like I do, that should delegate this specific FWP to the rental company.

If I remember correctly, the UK version covers the Indian subcontinent, i.e. India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. I think it started out as "Asian community (of UK immigrants)", but I'm not entirely sure.
I think the term rose to prominence when all of the various ex-Indians were kicked out of Uganda by Idi Amin back in the '70s. Many of them had been there for several generations, predating Indian independence and partition, so when they came to Britain it was recognised that referring to them as Indian was clearly incorrect, so Asian was adopted instead in an early example of Political Correctness.

Yes, fine, just can't chill down with an ice-cream free of the choking stuff. Thank you for asking.

I hate how long it takes to unpack a new work shirt... pins, plastic clips, tags, cardboard stiffeners, tissue paper and more pins.

I really get pissed off when I miss a bubble while getting so close (yet so far away) on higher levels (4xx) in BubbleMania on my iPhone.

Cannot they stop advertising it and making gullible folks like me to fall for it?

Never understood why men's shirts have to be packed up like that in the first place. Why not just have them on a hanger like women's shirts are?

My problem of the day is that I'd planned to go to the dechetterie this evening after hubby came home as I've a few boxes of paper, batteries, etc, to get rid of. Was just going to mention this to him this morning over breakfast when I realised it was the 15th August - which is a holiday here in Fribourg canton. So dechetterie will be closed today. Can't do it now until Friday evening and I've got the new central heating boiler arriving Friday morning - wanted all the stuff out of the way before then. Darn it.

Just went down to the post box to check for mail. None of course since it's a HOLIDAY!
