One can dream...
My husband's dream is "no neighbors" too

I'd go for something closer to town, so I can stroll down to the coffee shop/bookstore (my guilty pleasures). There are some lovely properties, also historical, all around; in addition, if nothing strikes one's fancy, you can always buy a piece of land (of which there is plenty for sale) and build anew.

I was taken by the "mountain feel", but on the ocean. I love the sea. I don't think I can ever live again in a landlocked country. FWP

Completely agree here - my first choice would be British Columbia - Vancouver Island. Unfortunately I'm not alone in that though, and it will alas remain a dream only. I'd even be prepared to run the lighthouse, while others have something similar just as their holiday home apparently - well, according to the prices (well into the several millions).

Still remains a dream though. Anyone up for a group lotto thing by any chance?

Lovely place. How many times a month does it get flooded?

Yep, that is my no. 1 dream too. And you see, no neighbour does not have to be far from a town either
I want the cake and eat it too. And if Eurolotto would get the message I could have it (no ZüriRollt, I will not share with you so pay your own Fr. 3.50 )

Probably about as often as you get to light the woodburning stove. (The Island has a grand total of 3 trees.)

You want someone within walking distance - having been in a mayen in Valais & having to walk to the next village to get help (how weird not electricity & no internet in these strange places) BUT one of the things I most appreciate now is neighbours that stay out of my face despite having no huge hedges & barriers. Total bliss to do your own thing without someone trying to tell you how to live your life, what to plant, etc.

Didn't you complain the other day about the neighbours watching your bum when you do your gardening?

Re: The First World Problem Thread

For the last two weeks my Delonghi coffee machine has been nagging me for a replacement water filter, and now it wants a descale too.

I'm sick of being bossed around by my appliances.

Something tells me had you replaced the water filter, descaling would not be due yet.
Guys, pheeeew, never listen yet don't want to deal with the consequences

Come to DC for a visit?

Awww, still long until d-day?

Well, DC sounds better to me than Oktoberfest. You make sure Trump is not there? I'm the type who can't bite her tongue

This much, I have already figured by myself from the context, that it had nothing to do with a mission in Normandy, lol. It would be an expected “delivery day”.

Welcome to the EF soon and expansion of expats society all the same.

I don't know what you are all on but I want some. This Denner 1/2 price wine isn't so wild. half the time it's toss up on how mouldy the cork tastes when you suck it.The rest is just a sniff test which wins the race.
