Oh, so a bit like many people felt about the U.S. presidential election in 2016?
Pretty much! The additional fly in our soup is that one of the non-major parties was apparently prepolling quite well. While it may be understandable that no one wants to vote for the two major parties, giving this "popular" non-major party the balance of power in parliament is even worse. Like, really - think far, far right.

Re: The First World Problem Thread

Came home today to an empty fridge, so treated myself to lunch out... and paid CHF 70 for two poached eggs.

Okay, cards on the table. It was Verlorenes Ei, served on a bed of barely-wilted spinach in perigord sauce, covered in a veritable avalance of white truffle.

Lawdy, it was delicious - and all things considered, CHF 70 well spent.

FWP: It'll be beans on toast for the rest of the week to recoup my food budget.

It's the 1st December. I've got to start writing Christmas cards and planning meals over the holiday period.

Plenty of time! Don't you have a printer and can't you just order take away?

Re: The First World Problem Thread

Already have the cards, I stock up in the UK from time to time. Just have to take the time to do them all.

Actually, never had any takeaway here or in the UK really, at least not ordering for delivery to the door. We pick up fish and chips sometimes on the way home in the UK, but that's it. Still, maybe a few ready meals would be a good alternative for some days.

It's the working out when we have our main meal at lunchtime and when we have it at dinner. Can't miss my horse racing so Boxing Day is a quick, easy lunch before that starts and trying to get a quick meal between the New Year's Day concert from Vienna and the horse racing can prove a challenge.

Re: The First World Problem Thread

I start my maternity leave in two weeks and everything child-related is already ready. Unless the little nugget comes early, and assuming I continue to feel as well as I feel now, what am I going to do with myself for the 3 weeks? OK, 2 weeks, since my mom will be here in that last week.

Freezer cooking for when I am sleep deprived later, visiting museums, sorting out paperwork with the embassies so it's ready later... I'm trying to keep the Netflix/Amazon binge-watching to a minimum, although there will be some.

Ideas???? Help! I've never been out of work/out of school/not traveling the world for that long. Also, most people I know will be working or out of town due to the holidays, so "pop in to see a friend" might not work on a random Tuesday at 10am! Maybe I am overthinking it.

Ideas????

My Ex ate a steady diet of Haribo and Gschwelti & Käse (actually, that is pretty much what she did the whole pregnancy, but she perfected it in the last 3 weeks).

(I wouldn't recommend this. She was huge.)

My suggestion would be to walk around your world and enjoy how quiet and peaceful it is. Treasure the last vestige of being able to concentrate on whatever you choose, for as long as you choose, whenever you choose. Take photos of what you now think of as your neat, clean and organized apartment - this will make you chuckle later on.

You're gonna have your baby at Christmas? That's not very original, is it

Now, I would not want my highly pregnant friends to "pop in". I wouldn't fall for them claiming they just wanted to say hello

Technically, an Epiphany baby (January 6). The doc did say that any day is a good day from Christmas onwards though, but I'm hoping he goes full term and I get to "evict" him only on his actual due date!
