4.2 Earthquake across the border in Austria during my evening meal; checked the seismic monitoring service moments later and disappointed the displayed info was not in real time, leaving me to think it was mere preternatural dizziness. C‘mon seismic monitoring service, you can do better than keep people waiting.

Sorry for being vague, but I thought this thread was to vent about FWPs without going into too much detail.
Anywho, USB-C is the "new" fangled thing for USB power and data transmission. Sounds cool. Fast and whatnot. Only that none of the manufacturers seem to have a common understanding of the specifications. Which means that there are so many different variants of it.
Oh and it gets better, they can actually damage your hardware.
I have two phones, fried, well done, to attest to this. And try explaining this to the shop.
"Guys, the phone caught fire."
"Was it a Samsung Note?" <cheap joke, I know>
"Nope. Was a <insert stable very top of the line phone name here>"
"Oh. We never had issues with that. We'll send a replacement."
<few weeks later>
"Guys, the phone caught fire."
...
On some more R&D, you find that the problem is much more serious.
In short, when buying a phone with USB-C, use ONLY, and I mean ONLY the charger that comes with the phone. That seems to be the only way to keep the phones from spontaneously combusting.

The FWP here seems to be that "plug and play, do not think yourself" is today's standard.
Still, sorry for your phones. RIP.
And this might deserve a thread of it's own.

I don't have any devices of this type yet so I can't really exchange personal experience.
I might as well read about yours (plural) before I get there

That, in itself, is a pain in the proverbial, the connectors are so fragile and get filled with crap incredibly easily. (one co-worker walked over to my desk a few days ago and asked my why I was digging in the bottom of my iphone with a toothpick. She's got a Samsung. - she was impressed when I showed her the navel's worth of fluff that I'd dug out of my phone)

Okay, it's a bit less gross.

I read about folks antropomorphizing their smartphones..it is epidemic. So, it is logical instead of picking (and collecting) lint from their belly-buttons they moved to collecting lint from their cells. At least they don't sell it on ebay yet...the lint, I mean. I forgot how much a jar of belly button lint went for, ick.
I wish somebody picked lint from my tech stuff, I don't have any time.
My real FWP is...I gotta cook and I am out of ideas, just finished the term, it was laborious.

I came home to find that one o' the Mutts has committed Grand Theft Cookie Jar. As in, around a kilo of butter cookies have been consumed.
I don't have enough evidence to determine who the culprit is. Hooligan has means (as in the brains to work out the details of the crime), but Heffalump has motive (as in, a bottomless appetite.)
Ergo, Sippenhaft: Both are going without dinner tonight.
FWP: OH is working from home today. Of course he didn't hear, see, or notice a thing. |
