| | Re: The First World Problem Thread | Quote: | | | | | Oh and I can imagine the thread here: curley killed in car-accident because car didn't move. But she mentioned that repetitively. How third world is Switzerland? They're all gangsters, charge lots of money for nothing, can't trust those mechanics here, would never happen in [insert where poster comes from]. But it was her own fault, woman are simply not assertive and anyway it was all because she eat meat, smoked and she was a cheeky cow anyway. | | | | | If it's any consulation, you have my sympathies. Similar happened to me in September 2015.
I'd pulled a shoulder muscle, so had swapped cars with my OH. He'd gone to night shift at LHR in my Mazda, and I was driving east along the Southern Perimeter Road of Heathrow (towards Feltham) in his automatic Honda Civic when it went into 'limp mode'. It scared the freaking crap out of me! Had a line of trucks up my arse heading to the airport's cargo depots and had to negotiate my way across, the carriageways, do a 360 at the junction and limp into the garage on the west bound carriageway. The worst part for me was how dramatically the headlights dimmed.
I somehow managed to get enough power back for the lights to come back on dipped beam, and just got over Jct 14 of the M25 and onto Stanwell Road when the headlights almost blacked out again. This was on a tree and hedge lined road with no street lights, and only the lights of oncoming planes coming into land at LHR to guide me. Finally managed to pull onto the pavement outside our house, but the power went completely before I could open the 7ft high double gates onto the driveway. I was up til gone midnight checking the power and finally managed to get the car into the courtyard.
OH worked continental shifts, so spent the next 4 days trying to find a garage within a 25 mile radius that could fix the onboard computer. 2 months later, after expanding the search to a 50 mile radius, and the car having spent a few weeks in various garages (including a Honda dealership) to no avail, we got the call that were moving to Switzerland, so he sold it on Ebay to an auto-electrician for a fraction of it's normal market value.
Good luck getting your car fixed Curley. We never managed it, so I really do hope you get it sorted.

Well, I expect it to be solved now and I don't think the board-computer is broken, it just doesn't find the car going limp every few weeks once for a short time worth turnning any lights on.
Oh and the cable of the lambda probe was ripped - possibly it wasn't even necessary to replace the whole thing but hey, you don't challenge guys when they're already jumpy. |

I strode confidently into the Executive Committee meeting for my presentation slot. I presented superlatively, answered all their questions with ease and even cracked a well-received, self-effacing joke. I was followed out with admiring glances and a booming 'Thank You' from the CEO.
As soon as I got to my desk I realised I'd left my phone in the meeting room. So I had to crawl back in like an asshole and now I want to die.

Embarrassing when stuff like that happens...
