That brought back memories. I went to a boarding school and at one point they got rather worried about us doing nothing constructive during the weekends, so set up lots of school clubs. I did a practical science club (run by our French history teacher ) and one Saturday afternoon he had us working out various ways of getting a cork out of a bottle without a corkscrew. He rounded off the afternoon by showing us how to open champagne with a sword (although I believe he used an axe).

Yes, essential skills for the modern young lady
i got the impression from ceppych i wasn't putting my back into this drinking business…

so i tried a picture hook which works.. i also read you can bang the bottom with a shoe but that did not work for me, maybe not strong enough though

first-world-problem-thread-img_0050.jpg

yes that is a water glass i only seem to have champagne glasses and they weren't big enough, my little first world problem

Libaries was all we had.

Books arrived only once a month and you had to wait a line for hours, maybe got one if lucky.

Libaries are rad.

yes, they compensate for a lot of the shortcomings of the average parent,

i remember always preferring to be dropped of at the local library while my mother went shopping, it was the former goal and the country being an old english colony with a lot of english influences had all the classics right back to homer and aeschelus.

I gotta pay a late fee in ZH though, shucks. Totally 1st world annoyance.

Nothing to do with laziness, it's falling so far off its original premise it's creating its own First World Problem. Ironically...

Re: The First World Problem Thread

It doesn't happen often in our busy daily schedule we have time to play social tennis as a couple

Today we went to hit some balls with my bh for fun and found out that all indoor courts with "carpet & granulate" (rubber dust for better traction) were fully booked. The only ones available were "carpet & sand" ones under bubble. I asked just in case a lady at the reception if my indoor tennis shoes (plain rubber soles without thread) would indeed work on it and she confirmed without even having a look at soles that they indeed would. Very first minute during warm up session I slid and fell scratching my knees to blood, bruised my thumb So I went back to complain about what she had told me and she gave me rental tennis shoes with proper thread.

After the sessions we had brief chat and I showed her soles of my indoor tennis shoes and she admitted that she never saw or new that such dedicated indoor tennis shoes existed on the market. How professional? The top class center at its best

Anyway my First World Problem is that I couldn't (and never will) rely on expertise of the dedicated sport centre and always have to trust my own judgment. Few spectacular bruises will feel sh@it tomorrow morning.

Re: The First World Problem Thread

Our flight to Singapore suffered explosive decompression over Azerbaijan, the gas masks fell, people were screaming and luggage and debris were flying everywhere. It goes without saying that we all thought we were going to die, but miraculously the pilot managed to regain control and wrestle the stricken aircraft to the closest airport en route. As soon as we touched down, we kissed and hugged each other before jumping on the escape chutes down to terra firma.

As you can imagine my joy and relief quickly turned to fury when I discovered that the wifi at Baku Intl Airport was down for routine maintenance
