The lemon cupcakes I made are flat and dense and might work well as doorstops. I have six packets of brand new, unopened and unexpired baking powder. How could I possibly have pulled out an old packet from 2012 and used that instead?
What exactly can go off with baking powder? Yeast, yes, but BP is purely a chemical mix, which should last pretty much indefinitely as long as it doesn't get damp. Did it get damp, perhaps?

No, that would be ex-pats and immigrants. Foreigners must refer to people who live in Germany and come down to Zurich for the high quality produce, right?

There is no yeast in baking powder. Baking powder is a major source of carbonates and acid, which gives baked goods a lift.

Moisture can cause part of the baking powder to react prematurely. It doesn't exactly go off, but it is less effective or useless.

Storing baking powder correctly in a minimum moisture environment is important (e.g. a tight container). The internet still seems to say that most baking powders only have an effective shelf life of one year, though.

There was no chocolate behind today's door on my advent calendar, so I opened tomorrow's and ate that chocolate instead.

It is damp, cold, grey, and very windy outside, yet my selfish selfish dogs still want me to walk them.

You either walk your dogs or you eat them... That's how it works here.

Re: The First World Problem Thread

It takes an agency seven working days to respond to my inquiry, only to tell me that the property I am wanting to arrange a viewing for is not available.

Yet, the ad for renting the property is still up on the website and shows in search results.

I store it in the freezer so I would think not...but it's the only explanation I can come up with for such flat cupcakes given I use this recipe all the time.

I could be dead wrong, but I think that would not be a good idea. I would have thought a standard air tight container in a cool part of the pantry was good enough.

Even though a freezer is fairly "dry", there's still too much risk of moisture exposure to taint the baking powder.

I got a nice fancy advent calendar for my toddler son. As it turns out, he does not like chocolate

Re: The First World Problem Thread

So, because I'm a caring and responsible owner, I took my dogs out for a lovely long walk in the woods, during which they both got thoroughly caked in mud and one of them rolled in fox poo. When we got home, I put them in a nice warm shower during which they looked at me like I was drowning their puppies, and then shook wet fur all over my bathroom.

Seriously, I don't think toddlers were this painful.

I do that, too, probably too much ...lemon tarts still complicating my usual routes, coz I detour to have that tangy texture. Evil.
