I'm feeling a little hungry but my luncheon reservation isn't for another two hours.
I had to make my own food for lunch today

I have to work out a recipe for lunch that includes double cream, a can of herrings, cherry tomatoes, a bell pepper, and 200g of gruyere.

Apparently cream (or sour cream) and herrings go together (including other ingredients, of course). Make a tomato and bell pepper cream soup to go with the herrings?

Might be a bit hard to muscle in the gruyere somewhere within, however. Could be a side for any bread you have on hand.

Easy-peasy. You got some onion too, and preferably some fresh coriander (cilantro)?

OK, so slice up the onions, fry gently in a wide oven-proof pan, to soften but not brown, and add the peppers and halved (or chopped, pulped, whatever you can do) tomatoes part way through. Some chopped fresh chilli to taste, or chill powder, should also be added.
A little veg stock or water here will avoid sticking, but cook gently until the tomatoes soften and can be squashed to form a sauce.

Now season this and add some cream and 2/3 of the cheese, continuing heating until it's melted, then range the herring on top, sprinkle the rest of the cheese over the top and grill or bake for around 15 minutes until it's nice and crispy.

Fresh coriander stalks, chopped, can be added with the tomatoes, some leaf with the cheese & cream and a little left over to sprinkle on top right at the end.

There, problem solved.

Re: The First World Problem Thread

Nope. We finished the onions at the weekend, all the herbs and spices are packed, as is the blender.

I've got more eggs left than I thought though, so the cream can go in scrambled eggs. Hoorah!

Re: The First World Problem Thread

Decided to "treat" myself after a long day, and need a place which will be guaranteed to be quiet, so on my train trip home on Sunday night I bought an upgrade to first class.

It was a nice peaceful journey home but when I disembarked the train I realised that some of the first class cars had been rebranded as second class. I'm guessing CFF did this to alleviate the excessive patronage in the standard second class cars.

I feel like a sucker.

Re: The First World Problem Thread

I loved that story about the two dogs who got on the train, with their abonnement, and did a 15 minute ride in first class.... Bernese mountain dogs.

Good for them. I had a Bernese, and he just took over wherever. A big soft lump.

The backup camera on my car doesn't have a little windshield wiper, so when it gets dirty I have to clean it by hand.

You have a back-up car camera? With no windshield wiper?

You should turn it around so you can video yourself singing along to the radio - and then put it on Facebook.
