Your baby has "voluntarily" ( work with me here) gagged on a pen, has bitten you whilst being nursed and now has bit the dog.

I assume the dog was not happy and winced away.

Is there something you should be attempting to explain here?
Try explaining a toothing 7 mo baby that gumming everything and everyone is not ok...

The snow plough went along the road three times at 5.20 this morning and woke me up and there was still loads of snow on the road when I went out this morning.

Parked by the parking machine only to find it out of order and having to walk 100m down the road to get a ticket - and then back up to put it in the car.

It passed around that time in my street too, but it didn't wake me up since I've been awake since 4 am with a sick kid...

And said sick kid now went blissfully back to sleep, while I must go to work

My bus was 1 minute and 28 seconds late this morning and when it arrived it skidded nearly 3 meters past the stop.
I had to climb through nearly a meter of snow to get on the bus.

Re: The First World Problem Thread

The differences between l'imparfait and le passé composé is driving me insane.

I realise this is not a new problem in learning French.

Also, why do I feel more comfortable speaking French in my apartment where I'm likely to get it wrong compared to the classroom where I am supposed to be learning the language in a convivial environment?

Why? Does French make him ill? He was perfectly fine at our English-speaking lunch. Such a cutie pie.

Said cutie pie is toothing and biting everything that passes his way. I had the bad idea to complain about it on this thread and our French learner up here pointed out what a bad mother I was for letting him do so

As if we could buy muzzles for that size!

That is exactly why I only teach in my kitchen these days- much more cosy, with the coffee machine on (and the answer is easy ).

By pm or here- what do you not understand re passé composé and imparfait?

In simple terms, use the passé composé with avoir or être for actions finished in the past:

Je suis allé à Paris et j'ai visité les Musées. Ensuite j'ai mangé au restaurant à Montmartre, J'ai mangé une blanquette de veau et bu un bon Bordeaux.

The use the imparfait for comments and descriptions: c'était très intéressant et il faisait beau et chaud. Heureusement, il n'y avait pas trop de touristes ce jour-là.

Use the imparfait for the equivalent of 'used to' - for facts in the past which are no longer true:

Quand j'étais petite, j'avais un chat qui s'appelait Tounette. J'avais aussi un petit vélo rouge et j'habitais à Morteau. J'adorais Johny Halliday!

Re: The First World Problem Thread

The guys from the elevator company came to do the annual maintenance. For whatever reason, they have changed how the numbers correspond to each floor.

Instead of -1, the basement/cellar level is now floor 0.

Re: The First World Problem Thread

I received a letter from a swiss company for my present and future address details after six months from now. And I am not gonna stay that long. It was all in German which I can't understand. I was a bit worried about the reason behind getting this letter.
